I think the answer is in your first sentence. He's attracted sympathy due to being blatantly robbed of what should've been a life changing victory. I don't think there's been a mass outbreak of love for his fighting style, just recognition that he was badly served by the corrupt paymasters that ruin the sport.

As for the dirty fighter charge, it didn't really get much traction because Taylor's by no means the cleanesst fighter either. In that fight it was pretty much horses for courses.

He’s not the most entertaining but at the end of the day it’s a fight. My boy was in a BJJ competition on Saturday and was head butted and took a knee to the face. He kept going and moaned at the end as even at age 11 he knows it’s a fight and things happen.

Didn't see the Fernando fight but those other guys made it ugly for him at times and both guys were at it, no mention of Taylor hitting him behind the head like half a dozen times? Or Foley swinging about 5 seconds after the bell?
