Delaney the taller of the two. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9pklDEgLzA&playnext_from=TL&videos=0Hfv_wp6REU&feature=feedu[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWYFTHTJUMM[/ame] Thoughts?
I have this fight, both great punchers but the difference was that Delaney was also a great boxer, something that "Oom Paul " was not.
Do you have the whole thing McVey, or just the 20 minutes here? I think Berlanbach comes out of this the big winner. I mean I knew what to expect fro Delaney and got it, i was perhaps even a tiny little bit dissappointed in the jab, though he looks wonderful, but Bernlanbach is a revelation.
THANK you for the footage,of this fight..I have searched and finally found the filmof these two great light heavyweights...My father used to tell me about the powerful ex wrestler Berlenback...I thought he would be a slow plodder, but the film shows Punchin Paul was light on his feet, for such a muscular man...Jack Delaney was my fathers favorite light heavy...Beautiful boxer with a laser right hand was Delaney...In 1925,"bright eyes" Delaney kod the tough southpaw three times in two fights with that laser right cross...This film shows Delaney/Berlenbach in 1926 winning a 15 round dec,,One year later Jack Delaney kod Paul in the 6th round of their final bout....THANK you again for this film I have never expected to see...b.b.

The tough southpaw Jack Delaney kod 3 times in two fights was of course Tiger Flowers...Delaney was that good in 1925...b.b.
Bang on. I was looking for a plodding pressure fighter trading on grit, toughs, and durability, what I got was a thinking pressure fighter with a good jab, mixing up back-foot counterpunching with nasty counter-rushing and vicious body-punching, very accurate. Of the two, he looks the more modern, arguably.
Two very underrated LHWs. Berlenbach had an impressive championship run, with wins over three separate HOFers in Delaney, Slattery, and Stribling. Delaney unfortunately expended what might've been his prime years at 175 by chasing after the HW title. He didn't carry on to HW well, being he was really a natural super-middle.
After seein the Delaney and Berlanbach footage nearly 6 years back, I thought I saw one of the best in Delaney, and its a big reason I have Jack in my top ten lightheavyweights of all time. He was like Gene Tunney imo.
The 1920s were to me the GOLDEN AGE of light heavyweights... Gene Tunney Tommy Gibbons Jack Delaney Paul Berlenbach Jimmy Slattery Kid Norfolk Maxie Rosenbloom Tommy Loughran This to me was the best era of lightheavies,in history fighting at one time...WOW!
Someday someone's going to unearth that rare film of Maxie Rosenbloom..it has to happen...may not be of any interest to anybody but me though.
