Both very tough, game, well conditioned men. Too close for me to call. Dempsey has the edge in power IMO.

Dempsey does have the edge in power, but Holyfield faced bigger punchers (Bowe, Tyson, and Lewis). I see a late mid to late round stoppage for Holy.

Holyfield had a habit of mixing it up, and this could be his undoing against Dempsey.

    Alternatively, you can say:

I don’t agree with them, but I want to understand their reasoning.

They might add something to my view!

Who did Dempsey ever beat that makes you think he would be competitive with Holyfield? Willard? That doesn't even count. Miske, Brennan, Gibbons? But middleweight Greb clowned them all first. Firpo nearly KO'd Dempsey. Dempsey avoided his No. 1 contender for years. His whole career was smoke and mirrors.

There wasnt a fighter that Dempsey beat as good as an 87 Holyfield.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Holyfield is bigger, stronger, faster, better conditioned, more durable, and the better boxer. Power? Holyfield knocked out Qawi, Ocasio, Deleon, Thomas, Dokes, Douglas, Moorer, Tyson, and others. He dropped Mercer and Bowe.

Who did Dempsey stop? Willard? Who else?

    Holyfield whips his ass!

dempsey would murder this version of holyfield. the heavier holyfield gives anyone a great fight but dempseys power as well as speed would be the differance in a war

Not a joke thread at all ! I agree that Dempsey would be too strong for Holyfield, but it would still be competitive.

Interesting fight. The one problem Dempsey would have immediately was that he simply didn't face the kind of fast, aggressive combination punching he'd be presented with here and Holy's work-rate and volume of punches land would see him race into a early lead on the cards, before his willingness to trade would see Dempsey claw his way back into the contest-as Jack's power would hurt him on several occasions. Evander wasn't the hardest fighter to hit- and he definitely seemed hurt more in his lighter days when he took on heavyweights and was actually regarded as having a suspect chin until around 1993.

I see the ref stopping it late, around the 10th, with the cards reading in Holy's favour- but not by too much- around 85-83. Jack scoring two big rounds in the 3rd and 7th, flooring Evander in one of them and having him in big trouble in the other but Holy's heart, as usual, would see him survive the tricky moments. It would definitely have all the makings of a thrilling contest.
