Take your picks. If you think other versions of Toney/Dempsey were better, then take them. :good

This would be a really interesting fight actually.

Could Toney make the distance? What kind of beating would he have to endure to do so? Could Dempsey make him quit or knock him out?

But it isn't a very moral match up Chris. Somebody gonna get hurt.

Be a good sport janitor, we know Toney has an outstanding chin and dito survival instinct. And many people think he has an old school style, so it's not that crazy is it?

You can compensate by making a moral prediction. Ever since i read your Dempsey-related article, i expect you to shine during subjects like these.

    I'll tell you what Chris,

I really don't think that Jack Dempsey ever faced a good all around fighter of Toney's calibur, and that includes a past prime rendering of lights out. Toney to this day, still has boxing skill, durability and stamina that I think could have potentially beaten Dempsey, never mind a peak version.

    OK

Toney at his brilliant best was a bit of a work. He was not however as mobile as Gene Tunney and relied on short range subtle defensive techniques. This wont quite work against Dempsey as Tommy Gibbons found out.

In Dempsey he would find a puncher as fast and refined as some of the supermiddleweights he faced, who landed with the authaurity of a Sam Peter. He would have to either fight to survive as Gibbons did or test his chin against the most destructive heavyweight of all time.

Good as his chin was there is no such thing as a good chin against Jack Dempsey.

Toney is more skilled and has a better alround game than anyone Dempsey's faced, Tunney included. Against a 1919 Dempsey wins but wouldn't but loses some rounds, takes some flush neck snapping counters, Dempsey's combination of speed/workrate/unorthodox combinations and bodywork give him a 8-4 or 10-5 type decision. Against a 1927 Dempsey 2003 Toney wins say 8-4 or 10-5 too

Well, in Dempsey Toney would face a fighter like Jones and Peter in one - speaking of speed and power. Toney actually is very limited - he is neither good at fightign aggressive nor at moving, he needs the other guy to come to him and fight at close range - but also very skilled at his game. Dempsey will come for him but I don´t think he would play Toney´s game. I think Dempsey would land regularly on Toney due to his speed and with some very good power. Toney´s defensive skills and great chin would prevent him from a knockout but he would suffer a bad beating which would possibly lead to some serious damage.

    gotta go ith Dempsey

Toney would have to fight like Giddons in a way to Protect himself from the onslought Dempsey would out on him and Toney dosent have near the footwork of Tunney to stay away from Dempsey

The Tommy Gibbons fight is a fair barometer of how this would play out ... mostly forgotten today, Gibbons was a tremendous boxer, extremely elusive with an iron chin ... I like Dempsey , big ...

I think Toney would outpoint him the distance. James at that time was just crazy skilled. Dempsey would get picked off. Just watch tape of both..You can see the difference in the era.

If Toney actually tried to win the fight, he'd get knocked out around the...6th. I'll go with that.

Toney by decision and Holyfield by late stoppage. Dempsey is too raw and crude for Toney, who technically would be most likely the best fighter that he would fight, and certainly with the best technique. I was watching Dempsey against Williard last night, and i couldn't believe how open both of them were. If Dempsey could somehow get on the inside and take away Toney's advantages, then he could win but i can't see that happen. The size wouldn't matter either as Dempsey wouldn't be considered a full heavyweight by today's standards.

Evander is simply too good for Jirov. Jirov is wide open for right hands, is directly in fron of you and Evander at cruiserweight was like a skillful buzzsaw. I see it going similar to Holyfield, Tyson I. It would be a great fight though.
