So let’s pretend that Dempsey gets pissed off at seeing his buddy Max Baer get beat by Jim Braddock and decides to come out of retirement and challenge Jim for the gold, Dempsey retired in 1927 and Jim won the gold in 1935, Does Jack have a shot against Braddock? Or was Dempsey’s decline too severe?
Braddock was so mediocre I think Dempsey who retained his power could get him out of there. I don't see much defense with Braddock. He's not fast either. Yeah, Dempsey would have a shot. He could also quickly gas. Braddock is not giving up easily.
Not at that age. Braddock had a chin, at least, and I think that if he survived 1-2 rounds then Dempsey would probably have nothing left.
Dempsey would have been well advised to stay retired, prime for prime Dempsey wins, however 40yr old Dempsey vs 30 yr old Braddock would be different story.
A Dempsey who hadn't boxed for 8 years, maybe hadn't trained for 8 years, and had 3 fights in the 4 years before that. Seriously?
If Jack couldn't handle King Levinsky in their four-round bout which occurred in 1932, he ain't gonna handle Braddock in 1935.
