We compare Jack Dempsey to people like Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson, his style actually had a few nuances that were all of his own!

I've mentioned the Big Bill Tate sparring clip here befor a few times. I think its befor the Willard fight? Anyway his athleticism for a large man is pretty incredible to me. The way he naturally and effortlessly gets so low it's so smooth. The bouncing in and out back on fourth on his toes also seems to have been done like it came natural again so smooth. It's a damn shame he was put on the shelf during his best yrs for that Vaudeville nonsense that had Kearns seeing dollar signs from a short sighted perspective.

Tyson was better than Dempsey at any department.

Slipping punches by primarily bending the back is sub optimal.

Not as an inside fighter, not even close.

At any department, the upper and hooks of Tyson were from inside, Dempsey was primitive

It seemingly didn't work against more skilled opponents

Tyson's probably the best ever inside. The shortness and explosivity of his punches were ridiculous.

Dempsey didn't even have much of an uppercut, the number 1 tool of infighting. Tyson's uppercut is arguably the best HW uppercut

He certainly mastered the slip against Wills.
