Benny Leonard looks fantastic on film, as do Gans and Tunney to name a few. Dempsey has lapses. He has problems that would be exacerbated if he faced the better heavyweight athletes that came to the fore over the past few decades.
That's what bothers me the most in terms of what I see. He clearly knows more than your regular ABC. He understood angles, could feint with a shift step, even counter occasionaly, shows glimpses of real good stuff... Than someone wobbles in front of him and he kicks all that **** through the window and rushes in like a smashed bum looking for the john. And that's not only when he got the guy hurt, he was so ****brained in sparking the other guy early he frequently doesn't bother with ****. I don't know I think he's erratic Not sure about that. What about Gibbons?
I don't recall those being championship fights. And again, Firpo is not Cooper... and certainly not even a Douglas, McCall or Rahman in terms of talent or ability. How anyone can look at film of him and see anything but a crude neophyte is beyond me... but if it makes you happy, think that he is some sort of physical marvel.
I guess Manny Steward and Holyfield would be, also. Again, if it is absolutely necessary to sustain the narrative that gives you comfort and meaning to believe these things, go ahead. I want you to be happy.
Quit your mudslinging and get thee back into my Holyfield thread!!! :fire I'm eager to see your reply, as I respect your opinion.
You wouldn't, in a parallel universe where time-travel exists and is used to accommodate the fans' collective appetite for transepochal fantasy match-ups? :blood I mean, I wouldn't pay the current top dollar rate of $79.99 for Hi-Def/$69.99 standard, but I'd shell out the usual thirty for a low-production value Integrated Sports or Latin Fury PPV. :deal
I see your point, but I think most great heavyweights in history have shown imperfections. Wlad is one of the best heavyweights in the past few decades, and he got KO'd by Corrie Sanders.
