Interesting chat....and it’s still unresolved 54 years later. One thing for sure though is I’m off to get me some Prince Albert smoking tobacco today. It looks like a fresh, smooth and cool smoke but the proof will be in the puffing I suppose.
I think the stench of the event lingers 54 years later. It was fresh in the minds of sports fans 54 years ago. I did not know Liston's brother in a law was part owners of the company who promoted/staged the event. Most of the times felt the re-match was very suspect even before it happened.

There was a bad feeling in Maine before the "fight" ever took place!!! Watching the "great" Sonny Liston roll around on the canvas with a look of "Can I get up now?" still makes you wonder...

I don't think the knockdown was real. If you look at him, he uses his arm to break the fall. If he was actually hurt he wouldn't have done that.
I think Ali’s immediate reaction tells you everything. He’s gesturing for Liston to get up shouting something like “Get up ya bum” Whatever was going down obviously didn’t include Ali.
