First ive seen this. interesting to hear the thoughts of all. Loved that tobacco advert in the middle, 'For the man who wants the convenience of a pouch'
Every man there told Howard they saw the punch land on Liston's chin. I KNOW this... I've been hit with everything - Went head first through the window of a Ford pickup truck - been hit solid from behind with a Blackjack and NOT went down. Then one day I choked on coffee while I was driving, feinted like a little sissy and drove my beloved Corvette right off the road and totaled it. Only Liston knows for sure what happened - and ANYTHING is possible.:nut Doug/loudsam PS: BTW - The feinting from choking or bearing down, (straining), is called "vasovagal syncope"
It's interesting that the two fighters both kind of sit on the fence with their opinion, especially Dempsey, whereas the two writers both think that Liston went into the tank. Was William Crawford really Sonny's father-in-law? The fight sure was suspicious. Muhammad never was a one-punch knockout artist and if he ever had a weakness it was his lack of concussive power. Liston was built like The Thing and had previously taken the best shots of guys like Cleveland Williams. Maybe Sonny was trying to win as Oscar for best supporting actor for his "performance"?
But if he was taking a swim - was it because he didn't want to get hurt? He didn't have to try to lose...
