Article on the largely forgotten legend of the original Jack Dempsey, who at his peak was said to be nigh unbeatable. http://www.kildare.ie/ehistory/inde...e-non-pareil-1861-1895-champion-of-the-world/ What are your thoughts on Dempsey and his place in boxing history?
Hard one to rate. Seems to have been a level above Jim Hall, despite being a lot smaller. And I base that on the Fitz and McCarthy foghts, where he was near the end. Seems to have been pretty special.
The original Julio Cesar Chavez, great dominance streak. Sadly lost to the best name on his resume by far, Bob Fitzsimmons, so he's a hard one to rank (this loss was past prime). I have him in my P4P top 50, was considering dropping him for Abe Attell though
They all are new.what other choice you have? Wait yrs? Don't have yrs but I got money. So I buy it. Bought these books in my avatar in the past 6 months.
I read somewhere that bob fitzsimmons was sad after they fought because jack was his hero, any truth to that?
Far out in the wilds of Oregon On a lonely mountain side Where Columbia’s mighty waters Fell down to the ocean’s tide, Where the giant fir and cedar Are imaged in the wave O’ergrown with weeds and lichens, I found Jack Dempsey’s grave I found no marble monolith No broken shaft or stone To tell of the great triumphs This vanished hero won; No rose, no shamrock I could find, No mortals here to tell, How sleeps in this forsaken spot The immortal Nonpareil A wind rock-strewn canyon road, That mortals seldom tread, Leads up this lonely mountain To the bivouac of the dead. And the western sun was sinking In the Pacific’s golden waves And solemn pines kept watching O’er poor Jack Dempsey’s grave Forgotten by ten thousand throats That thundered his acclaim; Forgotten by his friends and foes Who cheered his very name Oblivion wraps his faded form But ages hence shall save The memory of that Irish lad That sleeps in Dempsey’s grave Oh! Fame, why sleeps thy favoured son In wilds, woods and weeds? And shall he ever thus sleep on Interred his valiant deeds? ‘Tis strange New York should thus forget Its “Bravest of the Brave” And in the wilds of Oregon Unmarked, leave Dempsey’s grave Val O’Grady
Just got the Sharkey book Friday. Bought it from England because Amazon and Ebay in US cost $300.00. Got it there for 35 dollars. 17 dollars shipping. Been trying for yrs for it. Btw, screw others reviews. I decide what I like. These snobs like Flea and compton that think a book cant be encompassing in 300 pges are fools. Most great bios are in the 3-4 range. Books, not encyclopedia s.
very true.....dont know if your interested but some of amazons books can be more easily acquired by kindle and can be on your computer forever
This content is protected Dempsey's bio from the National Police Gazette, in several parts (Telegram splits the text, so this is only the beginning of the first part, install it to read the rest at https://t.me/senya13boxing ).
