[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlY2mpvSwdQ[/ame] Was looking for the movie to show a guy on the general forum, any of you ever see this film ?, it was pretty good the fight was great how they showed it, and is probably like it happend in the fact poor old jess getting badly beat up, something the old footage though brutal just cant show us. Love how its really accurate (bar the blood as its a tv movie). The way jess shakes his head after the first knockdown, and the end when jack walks up to him but gets dragged back by his seconds
I saw this film when it was first on television. Treat Williams had Dempsey's mannerism's pretty good , but the film doesn't show the height disparity that Jess Willard,actually had on Dempsey. Jack had to punch "up' to reach Willard's chin, not a natural way to put maximal power in Dempsey's blows. But what prime Dempsey did was amazing for his 183-185 pounds, that long ago day in Toledo, Ohio !!!
Thanks for posting .. it was fun ... I remember the show as a kid ... while it was corny as hell and sugar coated I always did feel they took some efforts to capture the look and action of the fight scenes ... it's a bit tough to see the slight Williams play Dempsey who while thin in Toledo was whipcord lean machine that looked carved from granite ... still, it was enjoyable ...
willard actually game in with a robe and then did a real slow cocky turn as he took the robe off still Tret got the basic moves down pretty good.....the hook didnt really really have the dempsey roll with it..but hey..thats a tough move to do.
