Tua had a very good right hand,I don't know where the idea he was just a left hooker comes from.

    Dempsey probably wins on points.
Ike seemed very plodding in his footwork, slow as hell really.

Dempsey realises this could be a dangerous opponent, he comes out fast swarming all over Ike. Some big hard punches get thrown in this from both guys. By mid round s ikes face is hanging off due to dempsey s fast accurate shots and the ref pulls ike out, unable to see Jack s punchers coming.

Or could it be that some of us actually watched his biggest fights and were impressed by what we saw in the ring, and recognize that he'd be a tall order for a much smaller man?

I agree that ike is obviously much bigger and thus stronger, with a better chin and punching power, but what about him makes you say that he is very athletic?
He had solid hand speed, and kinda slow feet.
Definitely doesn't look like an exceptional nfl kinda of athlete

Ibeabuchi-Tua is an overrated fight in some ways.
Yes, impressive work-rate from both men but they were fighting nervously and amateurishly for much of the fight and missing with a lot of that work.
To be fair, Ike was only 16-0 going into that, so I'd give him a pass. It was a decent learning fight and a good performance in that context. Tua was way too easy to hit for a 27-0 fighter though.

How would you rate Firpo in his fight with Dempsey?

Dempsey was helped back into the ring by spectators and came back to win against an opponent far less skilled than Ibeabuchi.

Where would Ike need to run? The guy was 240 pounds and hit like a truck, put 5 oz boxing gloves on that guy and many guys in Dempseys era would never step foot in that ring. lol

you realize Demspey was also very stationary and relied on opponets with limited footwork and had trouble with movers right? This is bc he wasnt as accurate puncher as lead to believe. i would probably put money on Ike vs Demspey /firpo and Carnera in the same night.

I don't like this contests because l have to turn my idols into mere mortals. Dempsey is one of my all time favorite fighters but l can't see any version of Dempsey beating the Ike that beat Tua. And l say this dispite the fact l have a video of Dempsey vs Firpo and he actually threw a punch that no matter how many times l watch it l can't see him throwing it. I only know he did because of the reaction of Firpo. Ib for lb Dempsey's a much better fighter but 50 lbs is too much to give up given their respective skill levels and other intangibles such as chins (both are great) Ike by KO.

Wait a second. Aren't you the guy who didn't know sh*t about the Brennan and Gibbons fights, not even the most rudimentary facts?

Please, tell me more of this great Dempsey.
