Yeah, if Haye had more chin density i would pick him over Dempsey no problem, as it stands it's a tough pick.
Ali W15 Dempsey.... Dempsey proves game, but totally out-classed in a boxing sense.... Ali *****-slaps Dempsey from long range... MR.BILL
Dempsey I just love but I can't see him being able to stop Ali . as much as it pains me to say this Ali by ud
Dempsey had one punch knock-out power in both hands. Ali barely lasted the 11th round in Frazier-Ali One against a fighter, Joe Frazier, who was throwing 90% left hand. And Dempsey had the best left hook in the history of boxing. Dempsey against Ali puts Dempsey in the ring against a fighter, Ali, who never knew how to block a left hook. And Dempsey, in his prime, was fast, vicious and had far more killer instinct than Ali. Ali would run but he would not be able to hide. Dempsey wins with lead left hooks followed by right uppercuts to the body, followed by left and right uppercuts to the head and body--Dempsey by KO in the 5th round, or earlier. Ali got knocked out of the ring by the likes of Henry Cooper, and dominated by Joe Frazier in '71.
To say that a prime Dempsey...say of 1919 has no chance at all against Ali is crazy...Dempsey had a great hook...power in both hands...a great killer instinct. When did Ali become unbeatable? If Copper's hook put him down...
Welcome to ESB S. I think your right on the money. Ali never faced a left-hooker as fast and powerful as Dempsey's torque like left hook. If a Cooper and a Joe Frazier could land and drop Clay/Ali with a left hook, why would not a prime Dempsey not land his vaunted left ? Ali NEVER met a fast deadly puncher as Dempsey was. Yes Ali was fast, no doubt, but a lot of his hopping around the ring without throwing punches was pure glitz and entertained the audience...Yes he did throw fast combinations at times, but unlike a Greb couldnt sustain the pace of bouncing around and throwing fast combinations for the full three minutes of a round, and did not hit hard enough to hold off some opponents, hence the development of the "rope-a-dope" strategy...Dempsey was a better two handed puncher than Joe Frazier was, needed less punching room for hurting opponents, and seldom if ever cut on his face like the prone Henry Cooper...So I give Dempsey a very good chance to catch up to Ali, hurt him and possibly stop Ali... Dempsey at his best was as fast as MWs or LHs and Ali never met someone like Dempsey, just as Dempsey never met a boxer such as Ali... Even at the age of 32,old and rusty from a 3 year layoff Dempsey caught Gene tunney with a deadly 7 punch combo that floored Tunney for 14-17 seconds , most likely scoring a ko in the famous "long count ", with blows so fast and accurate, it even looks quick in slow motion... Cheers...
Ali got put down but always got up and showed great recovery skills. I like Ali to take a decision, even if he gets dropped. Dempsey ain't stoppin him.
