Dempsey would catch up to him. Dempsey was fast, and guys his size had given Ali trouble. He also hit hard with either hand, unlike Frazier, and was great inside, tough to tie up, which Ali often did to buy time.
Perhaps Holyfield @ CW..and I wouldn't be certain about that either....Outside of him I can't think of a one!
Perhaps...Qawi could out hustle Dempsey to a dec. But I don't see it. The only one I would be willing to wager is Holyfield but wouldn't be 100% certain with that pick either.
It is not people picking Ali to win that I take issue with. Suggesting that the fight would not be competitive, is preposterous however. If guys like Doug Jones and Henry Cooper could give Ali problems, then you have to conclude that Jack Dempsey would be an extremely dangerous oponent for him.
Yes, shocks do happen, on occasion, but if I was to put money on this fight then I'd have no hesitation in putting a lot on Ali. Tyson's character could often be questioned. Ali's could not.
I don't recall Tyson's character - for the ring - being questioned one iota before that fight. IN fact, I think his character was seen as perfect for the ring.
I doubt you would venture anything more serious than an avatar bet, if this was a real world fight where your prediction was actualy going to be put to the test. It is funny how bold people can be with their predictions in fantasy fights, when there is no prospect of them ever being tested.
On the other hand, Janitor, Addie might genuinely see, like so many do, serious advancement in boxing technique since Dempsey. If he does, and if he regards Ali as the pinnacle of those advances, it's a natural pick. For me, Ali has enough stylistic and technical advantages to make an Ali victory likely.
