    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Today we continue with our Fantasy warfare series.
Andrew Golota burst onto the World stage in 1996 after his two beatings of Riddick Bowe.
On those nights Golota showed good boxing skills, excellent jab, respectable punching power and a killer instinct.
Golota was winning those two fights hands down before he got himself disqualified.
At that time I believed that Golota would become a very dominant and feared future World heavyweight champion and picked him to beat Lennox Lewis. However Lennox Lewis retained his WBC World heavyweight championship after a sensational 1 round TKO of Golota.
Since that time Golota has had wins against mid-card opposition, a loss to Michael Grant(he literally gave that match away), a dissapointing 3 round no contest against Mike Tyson, he beat both Byrd and Ruiz for the IBF and WBA World heavyweight titles only to be robbed by the judges and he was knocked out in round 1 by Lamon Brewster.
How would Andrew Golota at his best(in his matches with Bowe in 1996) fare prime for prime against Jack Dempsey?
I really believe that this is a fantastic match to think about.
Golota is a big man with a fantastic jab and he is a fast mover-he might give Dempsey something to think about.
Who would win this match-up over 12 rounds?
Would Golota be able to use his jab, good skills and killer instinct to beat Dempsey?
Or would Dempsey be able to use his boxing skills, ferocious punching power and his own killer instinct to bully Golota into submission?
    I await your views.
    yours thankfully
    John

70'years is a lot of time and everything has change, improved

I believe that every champion of todays time would easily win any champion of those ancient times in every sport

    that of course include boxing

    no single chance for Dempsey

PS: take a look at Golota's hands in Lewis fight, I personally believe that he didnt fully control his hands in that fight due to injection right before the fight

and to be honest Lewis looked the best he looked EVER in that fight, just look at his shape back then

    Dear funkykoval
    kind regards
    In response to your comments.

The Heavyweights of today are rubbish, they couldn't carry Dempsey's jockstrap.
Furthermore, Dempsey knocked out Willard and Firpo, which means that he could do the same to Golota.

Lennox Lewis beat Andrew Golota fairly.
    yours thankfully

It goes without saying that in any sport you compare the modern day sportsman with a guy from the 1920's, that the guy from now will **** all over the older fighter.

Andrzej isn't a heavyweight of today. Andrzej in the 90's imo beats Chagaev easily, as well as Peter.

Dempsey would always have a punchers chance but if the Golota who is capable of fighting great shows up id go with a toss up

Golota stands no chance. Dempsey has him beat for skill, power, speed and pretty much every department except size, but big fighters didn't bother Dempsey.

    Dear andyzOr
    kind regards
Well I always pit boxers at their prime for prime best.
So I guess the question is simply this.
Would Andrew Golota of 1996 beat the Jack Dempsey of 1919?
It is a great match up to think about.
    yours thankfully

Boxing in the 1920's wasn't even real boxing really.

They fought without judges and the 'skills' were woeful.

Any of the current top 50 beat people like Dempsey.

Forget names, it's just a case of 1920 vs 2008.

There is no sport where there is not a significant improvement from 1920 to 2008.

IF Dempsey lands early on him like he did with Willard and others he came out like a maniac at, and if Golotas caught cold he seems to crumble, like he did against Tyson,Lewis,Brewster........So you never know because the early Dempsey was a lot more viscious than the later one who took 3 years off in between fights and lost a lot
