Are you talking about the same Gene Tunny who spent over 14 seconds on his butt DURING the seventh round of their fight? The one who was KOed by a shot Jack in his last fight? You have to turn off the film at that point because it was over - Dempsey KO7 Tunney - the ref missed it but the crowd didn't and you and I didn't miss it. Jack KILLS anything he can hit. The great warrior Holyfield is there to be hit and goes out on his shield in about 8-9 rounds. I figure what James Tony and Riddick Bowe can do to him - Dempsey can.
That's not what the record books say. Tunney got careless and almost paid the price, but then proceeded to get up and beat the living hell out of Dempsey for the remaining rounds. That's what the record books say. Riddick Bowe used his size/strength advantage beautifully and Holyfield was clearly past it when he met Toney. They aren't really comparable.
No they are not the same - you want to give Holy a pass because he was shot but not as shot as Jack was in his last fight which he won instead of lost BTW. This is another BOXrec error. You should look up the film of the 7th round. Tunny is clearly on his butt for over 10 seconds and was not saved by the bell. In case you didn't know that is called a KO and the fight is OVER. Maybe he coulda, shoulda, woulda got up earlier but he didn't and if you deal with facts the proper and the only proper verdict is Dempsey ko7 Tunney.
No. The proper official verdict is Tunney UD10 Dempsey. There is no coulda, woulda, shoulda because he won. Officially.
Depends IS Holyfield on horse Peds like he was against Lewis? Or was he clean like he was against Tyson?
i dont see a category where Dempsey beats holyfield i love Dempsey hes an ATG and lately doesnt get the respect he deserves but i cant see him beating Holyfield
Depends on the rules, but assuming modern rules, Holyfield by mid-rounds KO. Olden rules, maybe Dempsey has a chance. More than any other fighter I can think of, Dempsey was a huge beneficiary of the old rule before 8-counts and people had to go back to the neutral corner. Under modern rules, Dempsey not only would have been a light heavy (due to prior day weigh-ins), but also would have been not nearly as good overall.
people saying holyfield dont realize they used cheap arse gloves back then, not like todays gloves which protect the hand and is way more padded. i would like to see holyfield take a flush shot from a dempsey right hand with those bare knuckle gloves. the old time gloves were worse than the mma ones where fighters r knocked out cold constantly.
