I am currently reading Peter Benson's Battling Siki, and this fight was thrown up as possible go'er post McTigue. Anyone fancy Siki had a chance?
This would have been more an execution than a fight. Interestingly Siki was the only black fighter that Rickard seemed interested in matching Dempsey with.
Reading up on it, it would of been huge, Siki was massive in Europe and a curiosity in the States. But Rickard was concerned about the Johnson affect, thus the reason it did not happen. Reading from a bias of a Siki Biography, he (Siki) did think he had a fair chance. I think at the very least he would of done much better than Carpentier (some compliment, eh? ); and if Dempsey was too overconfident, Siki did have the fire power to ruffle a few feathers...
Perhaps in stand of the 4 rounds as it was with George, it would last 1 or 2 rounds after some fireworks. Not sure if its better or not. Did Firpo do better than Carp?? Even though George lasted 4 rounds?
Firpo did much better than Carpentier IMO. Siki's style means he almost certainly would of lost inside six, but he would have had a small punchers chance, something Carpentier lacked.
