Williams would be a hard test for dempsey. H2h he NEVER faced this pack this level of hitting power+ speed

Louis didn't draw a color line. He defended the title against black fighters.

Wrong. Louis fought black fighters, although not as many as he should. Johnson sighned to fight all the best black fighters of his day. The promoters cancelled the fight

The truth is Dempsey would never take this fight.

I agree with this, Williams would be the biggest most skilled puncher Dempsey faced, so a chance of an upset. Dempsey has advantages of stamina, workrate and toughness over Williams

Like Tyson v Ruddock 1, but without the crazy ending in the seventh round. Dempsey soaks up the hard shots from Williams, drops him early and then finally stops him.
    Dempsey wko 7.

Fulton was bigger and at least comparable as a puncher.

Did Dempsey ever beat a heavyweight as good as Machen in a head to head sense?

Imho can we switch question to dempsey vs patterson?

It's disrespect match past champion to non champion(contender) in other era.

Fulton turned out to be a prototype of David Price.

If Cleveland got a shot at Patterson or Ingo he might have been champ

I like Dempsey here. Williams never impressed and is very padded. Dempsey had real talent, despite wasting it as champion.

Williams turned out to be nothing special. His best win is probably over Terrell (and he lost rematch) and his other best result is draw against Machen. That's it.
Fulton had chin problems, but at least he beat Sam Langford, wins much better than anything Williams ever accomplished.

I think that both were hyped prospects who turned out to be overrated. Williams never won anything against the best fighters of his era.
