 That just may have something to do with the fact that Holy was in his 40s.

giants couldn't stop him at the time but the body shots broke him down he went on the beat(most felt) Valuev 7' ft 300 lbs and went the distance with Ibragimov and beat Rahman all in the same time period

"Toney became only the second fighter after Riddick Bowe to stop Holyfield. But this was not the same Holyfield who engaged in wars with Bowe and Mike Tyson during his prime. This Holyfield was an old fighter just two weeks shy of his 41st birthday, still believing in his mind that his body could do things it could no longer do. The more he tried, though, the more futile his punches became."

    ESPN

Anyways I still pick Dempsey but your argument means absolutely nothing. When you have to use a 41 year old version of a fighter, you're grasping at straws.

One thing people need to understand is that Dempsey is gonna be hitting hard from the opening bell. Every punch he throws is gonna have power. He's not gonna throw a big shot once in awhile then regroup or let Holyfield recover himself back.

Hey, this is a strikingly interesting match up! I guess right off the bat I think about Tyson/Dempsey. Except I'm guessing Mike had the better defense overall. Offhand I'd have to say a 9th round TKO by Holy.

Dempsey was a great fighter, perhaps only Liston (and almost certainly) Tyson were as savage. But Holy had the kind of style that stopped that. And I see Holy as a greater ATG than any of the above.

I'd love to see that fight, though. Definitely pay for tickets :)

Who is the heavyweight that Dempsey beat who was as close to being as good at heavyweight as prime Riddick Bowe?

    How about post-prime Tyson?

    Douglas? Moorer?

    I'll be waiting.

This is thought provoking. I'd have to think about that. Wait, wasn't Tunney at least as good as post-prime Mike, Buster, Michael M? Ewps, sorry, he never beat him (embarrassed).

And...entirely imo, Bowe never really beat Holy. I had the second fight two points ahead for Bowe, and thought he was robbed of a champion's benefit of a doubt.

I have zero doubt a 96 Tyson stops Tunney.

Wasn't Tunney kind of small (as in, significantly smaller than Holy and Tyson) for a heavyweight?

Yeah, he was like 180/185 lbs. So a good 35lbs lighter than 96 Mike or 25 for Holy.

The version of Holy who lost to Bowe was literally diseased.

I LOVE Holyfield, but I recall Bowe calling him out on that. To the effect of "whose fault was it that you got in the ring, then?". I'd appreciate being schooled if I'm wrong, please, but Holy apparently knew the diagnosis after the Moorer fight...yet still chose to fight. Can't blame Bowe for that...and, being that I honestly respect your boxing knowledge, you're aware that Holy was well enough to knock Bowe down, when nobody else could.

Being that he did knock Bowe down, I have a hard time buying that Holy was in terrible health...he came nowhere near doing that the first two fights (I could be wrong).

Yeah, imagine how much bigger Bowe, Lewis and Wlad would've been compared to him, and Dempsey for that matter.
