I see Charles as an incredible P4P fighter but not at heavyweight. I don't see this incredible heavyweight resume. His pre-Marciano opponents Walcott aside were no big deal. He split w Walcott who I also feel is overrated. I think Dempsey was the naturally bigger man, stronger, much harder hitting with both hands, just as fast and much tougher .. we see a faded Dempsey not just almost take Tunney out but fight very competitively in the rematch. Yes he cleanly lost but he had his pound of flesh in many rounds and came fractions of inches away from a lot more and I think Tunney was a batter heavyweight than Charles. That said all three were courageous terrific fighters.

Err 3 wins over Rex Layne, 2 over Walcott, 3 over Maxim, Satterfield, old Louis, Bivins, Lesnevich, as well arguably Walcott 4 and Harold Johnson.

    It's a lot better than Dempsey's actually.

Its as obvious and irrefutable as can be.

The burden of proof is on those picking the less proven Dempsey.

I don't think that Lous beats Firpo, Brennen, Gibbons, Sharkey or Fulton. Of course I mean that Louis.

I don't think he beats Sharkey either, but Brennan, Firpo, and Fulton never impressed me at all. Gibbons was a MW.

What's a bore is folks making claims they can not support.

    I'm having a beer instead.

Charles lost to fighters like Ray and Layne.

He was very beatable in a series of three!

Gibbons was still the #2 Ring Magazine Heavyweight Contender, when Tunney beat him!

That was long after his sell by date!

I just wish that there had been rankings before that, so that I could dissect your statement.

The rankings only came along very late in Dempsey's career, but they back up his opponents retrospectively!

Actually a bore is a last word freak with endless free time who deviates from the point of the thread and thinks others have an interest in joining him. Fits you perfect.

I assume this is as close as you can bring yourself to admit that Charles possesses the better heavyweight resume, contrary to your earlier statement.

In my country, January 1 is endless free time off.
