Dempsey all wrong for Floyd - Quick start- fast hands- not as fast as Floyds but Dempsey hit too hard Dempsey by KO 1-5

    Eh, some could argue Tunney
Dempsey was one of the hardest hitters ever and a quick starter, I can see him going all out from the beginning and stopping Floyd

Those that saw him said Dempsey was the fastest heavy they had ever seen. Plus you don't need to be real fast to shatter glass.

I like Dempsey and pretty early, say inside 4 rounds.

But what if Dempsey was transported forward in time rather than Patterson back in time?

Prime Gene Tunney was an excellent fighter - unfortunately Jack was rusty and past prime- rusty Jack D still managed to KO Jack Sharkey & long count Tunney - I am tough on Tunney for a short heavyweight career but he still has a great resume before beating JD 2x - I rate Gene over Patterson and don't see Floyd surviving the long count combination

I really cant blame Gene for retiring when he did he didnt run away from anyone - he ran off with a beautiful millionairess- after 70+ fights I would do the same and escape quickly

Agreed. Only advantage Patterson haa is speed and Dempsey's not to far behind in that regard. This is a mismatch of epic proportions. And this is coming from an out and out Patterson fan.

If I was forced to pick, I'd pick Dempsey to win simply because Floyd has the more vulnerable chin.

Patterson attempted to knockoff the Dempsey style under Cuz and couldn't match him in any way and lacks his power and aggression (and chin). Dempsey has better head and body movement, and his bob and weave were way more sporadic while Pattersons were very predictable. Patterson is very lucky if he makes it past 4. Both are fleetfooted as hell

If you are going to trade with Dempsey, you had better have an A grade chin.

Patterson was tough, so he goes down, and keeps getting back up, until the referee, or his corner, stops it, or he simply can't get up anymore. I seriously doubt if Floyd sees the bell for round #2, and I'd bet heavily on Floyd not making it to the 4th.

Sure he could. But Dempsey could also beat him.
The way I see it, if Patterson can avoid Dempsey's power shots, he wins, he's more skilled. But if Dempsey connects with a big one, Patterson is in huge trouble.
