apparently Jack Dempseys purse for this fight in 1926 was $750,000 which equates to $9,090,000.

This is more than Babe Ruth earned in his entire baseball career and more than the philadelphia phillies and st louis browns teams salary at the time.

    Which seems staggering!

Dempsey was actually in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest earning boxer of all time (including post career money making refereeing gigs) with a total of over ten million dollars in income, a record which was not broken until after Ali regained the heavyweight title from Foreman in the mid 1970s. Now, bear in mind that this $10,000,000 record was NOT adjusted for inflation.

I've repeated before that Jack was the highest paid athlete of 1925 without ever defending the title.

By the way, the highest earning athlete in history, at least prior to the mid 1970s, was Norwegian figure skater turned movie star Sonia Henie. So much for gender equality.

    wow thanks for that.

Imagine what it would equate to if it was still the ratio of earning more than two baseball teams put together astronomical!
