I bought the Black Hawk Super 8mm collection of Dempsey's fights in the 60's. As your Face Book Birthday notification states ,you weren't born then? As I said, Red Rag to a Bull. Huh Toro! Dempsey touches down ,not called a KD.= 2Kd's Jack Dempsey vs Luis Ángel Firpo HD[60FPS] - YouTube NB I haven't even made a pick yet the insults immediately roll of your tongue. God Almighty! You are thin skinned aren't you ! Excuse us mere mortals if we don't fall down and worship at your feet, you sensitive soul! Bless You.
Gregorio Peralta went the distance with him weighing 197lbs. Why resort to hyperbole instead of using common sense?
Brennan did not outbox Dempsey, at best it was an even contest. Having some success is not the same as outright outboxing the guy. It was not even slightly comparable to the Tunney fight. Bill Brennan was a world-class boxer, Foreman had trouble with lesser fighters like Peralta and Jimmy Young. Foreman was also slow as hell, I don't think he has an easy time with either Brennan or Firpo.
You clearly haven't seen the fight. Plus Foreman only weighed between 213 and 220 in his prime. So he wasn't much heavier than the sub-200 lb fighters. The assumption that crossing the threshold of 200lbs gives you some kind of superpower is ******ed af. Have you been drinking your vitamins?
Dempsey wasn't a face first fighter, Tunney said he was hard to nail clean. Peralta didn't run away.He also had a top chin. tps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKmbCC59Ghs
First of all Black Hawk didnt release a complete version of Dempsey-Brennan. Their version of Dempsey-Firpo is heavily edited, as is the version you linked to above which still shows all three knockdowns. Im not sure what you mean by saying "not called a KD" Dempsey arose before a count in the first two knockdowns. There was no standing 8 count in effect at the time. Check the rules on what encompasses a KD under the Walker Law in New York in 1923. Jesus, either you are as senile as bragging about buying a nonexistent fight 60 years ago would imply, or you simply cant stand being wrong so you cant admit a fact thats evident right in front of your eyes.
In spite of the fact that he didn't fight Harry Wills (who he would've beaten anyway) he still arguably has one of the best resumes in heavyweight history.
I didnt say it was a complete version but there is enough of the Brennan fight to see Bill did not outbox Jack. I mentioned buying the collection ,not to brag but to show that I dont rely on box rec for my info. The first time Dempsey touches down Firpo has landed a shot but moves away and Jack comes in to clinch , Dempsey touches down, a KD? It wasn't called or counted as a KD during or after , I'm aware there was no standing count. I've been wrong plenty of times, including in debates with you,and have no problem admitting it. How about yourself?I can remember you saying Joe Brown wasnt much as a chmpion and then a couple of years later stating how good he was. When I queried this with you ,you said you couldnt remember making the first statement. You also once confidently stated that Joe Louis knocked out Marciano's teeth .when I pointed out Rocky wore a bridge you didn't reply We can all be wrong, but being wrong isn't the end of the world for most of us What I'm not wrong about is you. You are so up your own fundament its unreal.I have never in the 17 years I have been here ,seen you make a post that contains even the bare minimum of politeness . Nobody doubts you possess a factual knowledge of boxing ,through obsessive reading and research, but the way you present it to the forum is as though you are doing us all a great favour.[I've never seen you give any analysis of a technical nature so I suspect you haven't actually boxed yourself is that right?] I'm aware you don't require or need the approval of the forum.God knows you think so much of yourself you don't need any ! It's just a pity you are such an objectionable piece of work as a person. Shame really, we would all enjoy your input so much more if it wasn't delivered in the form of an egocentric,self- glorifying lecture,
By far one of the worst and agenda-driven posters here. I don't doubt he has all the footage he says he does but he can't analyze for ****. His analysis of fights not available to the public are contradicted again and again by contemporary reports of the fights, and his analysis off fights that are available to the public are contradicted by anyone with eyes.
I couldnt care less about your opinion of me. What is germane to the discussion is the fact that you incorrect about Dempsey-Firpo and Dempsey-Brennan. Show me when I said Brown wasnt much of a champion, Ill wait right here. Im well aware of you contention that Marciano had his teeth knocked out before he spent the evening on the end of Louis' jab, that doesnt make it so. Unless you want to pretend that you were a close personal friend of Marciano's and he whispered this in your ear. You are on record as saying Dempsey is your favorite so Im not sure how your constant attempts to defend against the negative aspects of his career are any less biased than me pointing them out. The difference is the facts always seem to be on my side grandpa.
Fights are fought in the ring, not your imagination. If Dempsey had believed as strongly as you do that he could defeat Wills he would have jumped at the chance to fight him and taken a career high payday. But he didnt and he gets to live with the stigma attached to a coward who refused to face his top contender for the entire duration of his reign as "champion". "Arguably" one of the best resume's in heavyweight history? Yeah, we could argue that all day long. His resume is a masterpiece of fighting has beens, never weres, and light heavyweights he knew he could beat. His resume might as well be populated by men named Dusty Trunks, Kenny Getup, and Willie Continue. When his fans get little hearts in their eyes about him knocking out a fat, undertrained, 37 year old oaf who hadnt fought in three years and had two fights in the last five years it says something pretty damning about the guy. But hes going to beat George Foreman. LOL.
Dempsey tried to fight Wills on two occassions: the first time they were denied by the government and the second time his manager purposefully priced him out of the fight. His manager felt guilty about his involvement with the Johnson-Jeffries fight because of the the race-riots and didn't want that to happen again. Dempsey was not unwilling to fight him. Carl Morris, Jim Flynn, Levinsky, Fulton, Gunboat Smith, Meehan, Willard, Miske, Brennan, Carpentier, Gibbons, Firpo, Sharkey -- I would say his resume is pretty damn good and he fought all those guys in their primes -- he beat every contender in the division top to bottom before getting the shot against Willard. Lets not also forget about the 100s of unreported fights he had.
YOU were the one who said ,after seeing a photo of Marciano the morning after fighting Louis that Joe had knocked his teeth out.NOT ME.. How could I find your Joe Brown post it was several years ago? I have no idea how Marciano lost his front teeth, but I do know Louis didn't do it! Yes I'm a Grandpa 8 times over now I'm sorry that I don't take that as an insult.Yes I am on record as saying Dempsey is my favourite fighter. I am also on record as saying Harry Wills deserved and should have gotten a title shot. What negative aspects of Dempsey's career am I on record as defending? As I mentioned, you don't care what others think of you ,your overwheening self regard more than compensates for our opinions of you. You absolutely hate Dempsey and everyone here knows it. I wonder what you would make of Pollack's 2nd Vol of Dempsey? I've never seen you praise another boxing author and you certainly slagged off James R Fair. There is only one opinion. The Steve Compton one! Isn't that right? 1954 photo of Rocky with his bridge-work in place. This content is protected
