well tyson is better than dempsey in pretty much every aspect of the sport. don't really see how it's a pickem fight....
Prime for Prime, Tyson was more lethal in his combos than Dempsey was in his winging shots, was faster of hand and foot, had better footwork, was more disciplined in the ring and I would even say had better whiskers. Dempsey was more active inside (albeit against smaller, weaker opponents) and had great, compact shots but ones which often put his feet out of sorts and left him open to counters. Speed and shiftiness were Dempsey's poison. Combine those attributes with excessive power and you have a real recipe for his downfall. And that meal you would make is called Mike Tyson.
Tyson had better defense & had much more muscle. Dempsey was at most nearly as fast because in mass per square inch, he was lean for a modern HW, Tyson loved Dempsey. But think of this.... No other straight ahead swarmer for years has succeeded at HW at that height/weight ratio. You cannot beat another ATG with pure force & ferocity when much smaller. At least it is very unlikely.

i spoke with guys, fighters and trainers who saw them both fight and they picked dempsey. dempsey by ko around 5 or 6
I am not trusting the judgement of anyone who saw two fighters whose primes were 67 years apart. The simple math of this situation dictates it. A decent observer of the sport would have to be at least 25 years old... which puts him at 92 when Tyson was in his prime. Dempsey was not as fast as Tyson, had sloppier defense, balance and footwork. If he goes out for the kill, he gets stopped mighty quickly. And boxing Mike would only delay the inevitable. He simply doesn't have the tools.
Yeah but you'll trust the judgement of old choppy videos of Demspey fighting to make your assesment??
