I guess I meant in a tug-of-war of self-doubt versus affirmation of his self-worth, which Dempsey wins? Circa 1926, let's say.
This is a new one to my knowledge. There was once talk of matching the Nonpareil against John L Sullivan, so the match is not as far fetched as it might sound. Even making the strongest possible assumptions about the Nonpareil's attributes, it is hard to imagine him being big enough.
I don't see how Jack Dempsey can actually win this. But he could ask Tyson Fury for pointers. This content is protected
I think its a great match up. Personally, I would bet on Dempsey to take it. If not, then Dempsey. Did you know Mike Tyson, another former world heavyweight champion, admired Dempsey and tried to emulate his fighting and hair style? Tyson had a record of 50-6-2 with 44 knockouts. Thats 44 knockouts! Crazy! Dempsey had a similar record at 54-6-9. And he also had 44 knockouts! Wow! Tyson! 44 knockouts!!! Dempsey!!! 44 knockouts!!! Wow!!! Dempsey was great. Did you know Dempsey won the championship with a brutal 4 round knockout over Jess Willard? Wow. That sure was something. Its commonly referred to as the worst beating in boxing history by many reputable sources. I enjoy watching others get beaten. Its up there with the greatest knockouts in boxing history. You know what rhymes with history? Dempsey. Dempsey dempsey dempsey. Tyson. Dempsey tyson dempsey tyson. Tyson tyson tyson dempsey. Dempsey tyson tyson dempsey. Heavyweight. Knockout.
Dempsey was a born killer, as vicious a SOB as ever entered the ring with lightning speed, dynamite in his fists and a cast iron jaw. Dempsey, on the other hand, was crude and undersized, decent enough for his time but distinctly lacking by today's standards. His sloppy beatdown of the cumbersome Willard vastly overstates his ability, since Willard was by that point a walking statue, and Dempsey still took an age to get him out of there. I'd pick the man that destroyed the colossal and highly skilled champion Willard over that crude bar room brawler any day. Just a different breed of animal. Dempsey by KO2.
Nonpareil was not a crude bar room brawler. He was as good a technical boxer as existed in any weight class at the time. Even so, he was basically a welterweight in today's money.
Are you really comparing that sloppy bum with Jack Freakin' Dempsey?? Jack would uppercut himself in the face so fast his feet wouldn't touch the ground. He'd then hover over his prone form like a preying mantis ready to punch himself in the face again the moment he tries to get up. Just a vicious, vicious man.
