Dempsey fanboys are nearly as carried away as the Rocky set. I would have loved to have seen the look on their faces once Dempsey and Frazier settled down to trench warfare.
You obviously did not live through that era. Joe was a very slow starter. Everyone looked to rounds five or six to see Jow turn up the steam. He would not have lasted that long vs Dempsey. The power Dempsey possessed is underrated greatly today. The guy was a murderous puncher with both fists. Jack Sharkey stated "Dempsey hit harder than Joe Louis." He added.. "I never thought anyone could hit that hard." Sharkey was about the size of prime Frazier.
How impressed are you with Dempsey? What do you make of his speed and power, for instance? Do you see a phenomenal talent, or not?
REPEAT..... It did not take Frazier 5 or 6 rounds to "turn up the steam". At most, he was revving up and into it by the late 2nd or early 3rd. You simply don't know what you are talking about, bud. Too bad Ramos, Ellis, Quarry and others aren't around to have a conversation with you about this "5 or 6 round" nonsense. But maybe you can ring up George Chuvalo about it. And yes, I lived that era and have forgotten more about Frazier than you ever knew.
Dempsey's best shot is early. He was the faster starter and the better two handed puncher .. the longer it goes the better for Frazier .. if I had to be it would be on Frazier ..
No, he was a better finisher than Foreman. Look I am not saying that Dempsey puts him away like Foreman did, but somebody is getting put away in the first half a dozen rounds or so. No need to even keep a score card.
Yet, Tommy Gibbons said that Billy Miske hit harder than Dempsey and that the only blows Dempsey hurt him with were those below the belt. Dempsey never faced anything like the terror that was Frazier, never faced the quality of offensive fighter that was Frazier. This goes 7 at best. Frazier by KO.
This times change stuff is nonsense here .. we have two warriors .. neither is coming out trying to outbox the other .. Jack was faster punching and faster starting .. either he hurt's Joe early or likely wears down as his 188 pound body never took the sort of punishment Frazier dished out ..
