    1. Bonavena didn't go the distance with Ali.

    2. Chuvalo went the distance with Ali. Foreman didn't. Chuvalo wipes the floor with Foreman. Oh wait.

The only thing Foster was more skilled at than Dempsey was padding his record, and the matchmaking of his manager. To my knowledge, he's the only contender in history to make it to number one without beating a single ranked contender in his entire career.

I might find it difficult to bet against Dempsey in a handicap match against Bonavena, Chuvalo and Foster.

Jack Dempsey hit a lot harder then Frazier and Enry Cooper he could also actually inside fight proper.
He’d stop Ali or keep him on the back foot to a decision - like Tyson, Jack would work his way inside fast and counter off the lead.
Dempsey unlike MT would not need to clinch after getting his swats in so the fight wouldn’t stop there and Ali would be lost.
George Foreman was too careless with his defence - Dempsey would let him come, meet him and stay inside (Foreman would think he wants that) GF wouldn’t be able to get off at that range at all.
GF just needed too much room for his offence and Jack would take that away castrating his power and break him down.

    Dempsey via early knockout.

Toledo Dempsey beats every fighter that ever lived.

The fight happened, & at the height of Frazier’s career. I’d say it counts.

Wouldn’t Jack Johnson be impossible to match hypothetically against other Black Champs because he ducked the best Black contenders during his reign? Does anyone say anything like this when he’s in a mythical match?

It’s a fantasy fight we are proposing. The fighters are in the ring, fighting, period. Yet somehow Dempsey & Tunney need to be painted as too scared to fight certain opponents while everyone else just gets matched.

I can see Dempsey putting Joe down , but I can't see him keeping him there. Frazier is the favorite in my mind but could Jack stop him?
Yes,,,it would certainly be one for the ages.

Dempsey chances go up if the 3 knockdown rule in a fight is in effect.

No Johnson is never held to the same standard, no surprise there. He deliberately fought only whites as champion except for one fight, he was all about himself yet is held up some hero.

Good analysis. I tend to favor Foreman over Marciano as he had many similarities to Frazier, however Dempsey and Tyson are both very different. Prime Tyson vs Prime Foreman is say is 50-50. Dempsey on the other hand I'd say 60-40 over Prime Foreman for the same reasons you mentioned. People have taken Foreman's victories over Frazier and ran with it saying Foreman beats all swarmers, but you have to factor in other things.

Frazier for me is gonna be in real danger in those first few round s, that's Jack's best chance.
If we start moving in to the second half, then it's Joe's game to win.

but Dempsey did have the luxury of a management team smart enough to avoid a hall of fame number 1 contender for 7 straight years

    Interesting take..

Which opponent did Dempsey destroy that gave you such confidence in his ability against the much more technically proficient boxers of the 70s?

was it 38 year old bandylegged farmhand Willard, coming off a 3 year layoff?

or was it Luis roly poly Fipro, who boxed like a couple of flapper girls on the ole gin & juice?
