Certainly Jacks displays against Willard and Firpo tend to show that he can hurt Norton, should he catch him right, and if he is in one of his ":Red Mist" Moods. Norton, despite his imposing .physical advantages may find himself under savage attack from the smaller man, Kenny Liked Boxers, Boxers he could throw off kilter with a mix of that Crab-Style boxing and aggression, Boxers didnt worry Ken too much, be they Ali, Holmes...or Young (Norton Vs Tunney might of been rather interesting !?) . But someone who could punch...coming for him...Kenny could get a bit "sweaty" I tend to Like ex Hobo Jack's Mental toughness, and as i say...if that old Dempsey "Red Mist" decends..i think the Body Beautiful might end up the Body Battered... if that old saying applies, "its not the size of the dog that matters...its the size of the fight IN the dog.." Then the teak Tough Ex Hobo can Hound Norton to defeat....
I love both these guys for different reasons and Kenny's one of my favourite half dozen fighters of all time, but I think Jack's ferocity may be enough to get Ken out of there early on, like he did Willard and Firpo...like the Firpo match, I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny scored a KD of his own along the way...
Norton was a great fighter, but he clearly had stylistic issues against finishers (notice I said finishers not punchers). People who stood in front of Dempsey and didn't fight to survive, often ended up breaking records in terms of how quickly a world class fightewr could be taken out. Norton would probably have more chance of winning a rematch with Foreman.
Norton had a solid twenty pounds on him but it means nothing .. a lightning starting Dempsey freezes Norton and starches him early ...
Norton didn't do too well against 2 monster punchers that ko'd him but the smaller Dempsey doesn't hit nearly as hard and isn't nearly as strong as Foreman or Shavers. Norton may well be able to KO Dempsey himself Technically Norton makes less mistakes and uses a jab (unlike Dempsey), keeps his opponents off balance, has a tricky cross armed defence and fights at a very fast pace. He's a far better HW than anyone Dempsey beat and he has 2-3wins that top Dempsey best wins too It could be a KO either way, neither fighter is worth betting on though
Normally I don't regard Dempsey as a shoe in to win many h2h match ups and find he's vastly overrated by many, however this matchup certainly goes in his favour. Norton had a great chin and could take a lot of punishment, however his chin was not that of an ATG and certainly fell to those who held ATG power in their fists. Jack would rock Norton early (I agree with pp in the sense that he didn't hit quite as hard as Foreman or Shavers) however Norton would be able to avoid the fairly unskilled Dempsey for a few rounds. Despite Norton's superior boxing skills (by quite some way as well) I just don't think he can handle Jack's power for 10/12/15 rounds and would get stopped around the 5th-6th round. Gotta give Dempsey his dues in this one, I'd really struggle seeing him loosing it.
I respect Dempsey but Kenny Norton could and probably would catch him coming in with something solid. I could see Jack having to pick himself up off the canvas. Its a situation where if Norton can gain some respect of his power then he can get the time and room to box Jack Dempsey. Norton was a sharp boxier with a nice jab and good counterpunching skills. Dempsey was the bigger puncher no question but Norton wasnt exactly Chris Byrd in there. He could hurt you.

Does he know boxing or not???? You seem to know everything, though...
Norton probably doesn't have the movement or ability to deal with a hard-punching, mobile, volume puncher like Dempsey. He probably gets bombed out. I wouldn't be shocked if Norton beats him though. He did deal with some good mobile heavyweights...
Norton has trouble with Dempsey quick powerful hands strait down the pike....Jack has fun with the bigger target...Dempsey by KO
Some posters of today do not realize that Dempsey was a STRONG man despite his 190 pounds...His strength didn't come from weight lifting, but from a taut muscular frame..He would as Nat fleischer described have the strength to put his gloved hands under the armpits of kod victims, and lift their dead weight off the canvas to their feat...He loved bigger men to fight cause he would outspeed them and anyone that the prime Dempsey hit he HURT...Jack Sharkey claimed wherever the heavy fisted Dempsey landed he hurt you even on the shoulder...And uninformed posters should realize in those days heavyweightrs were trained down to their lowest weight ...They needed stamina cause they fought 15-20 round bouts and they fought often.. I have said it before, but will say it again, Dempsey reminds me at his peak of the later great lightweight Roberto Duran, animal like quicknes and viciousness...For some silly posters to say he had no skills show their bias or ignorance...Dempsey, could move on his legs, bobbing and weaving with his chin tucked into his shoulder, he was as Tunney said a hard target to hit solidly on the chin...Any heavyweight that could outbox a master boxer Tommy Gibbons for 15 rounds in a broiling Reno sun handily COULD certainly box when he HAD to...
