I very much doubt Norton was Gibbons superior as a boxer. Dempsey punched the **** out of big tough sparring partners ,I think you are getting bit carried away.
Norton would be the best hw dempsey ever faced without doubt. Probably a bit too black for Jack to ever get into the ring with also. I reckon it's 60-40 in favour of Dempsey by stoppage. The other 40 percent will see Ken win on points.
We're talking prime for prime here. I can't believe you really think Jack was in his prime when he fought Tunney. Jesus can't Jack get a break here on esb? Back in my day he was a hero and now swines like you drag his corpse through the mud. Cheers D! :hi:
Are you really saying you wouldn't rank Jack higher if he'd have added victories over Wills and Greb to his ledger?
Sry didn't realize that if were talking about who he fought we would have to consider his prime. How exactly am i a swine i was arguing FOR him
Yes you and your naysaying tribe are all swines the man went from being a hobo to a champion banging silent starlets and who are you to blame him hundred years on? Well D, I say nay to you! He was a shell in 26 and I believe i'm go good company saying that... Cheers D :hi:
IM ON YOUR SIDE DUMB ASS. Someone posted Dempsey had never faced anyone as good as Norton i forgot we were only talking primes and so i said he fought Tunney who was better than Norton. I realize that Dempsey was passed it when he fought Tunney.
Norton is extremely rangy which works in his favour, but Dempsey would begin to slip Norton's jab after a few rounds. Dempsey would be the pursuer, and Norton was no defensive technician. Dempsey had decent footwork and could pressure effectively, something he would have to do in this situation. Reckless abandon would not work with Norton. I think Dempsey stops Norton later on, accumulation of punches from Dempsey is not something you could stand up to.
Gibbons is overrated, I go not only by what people say but what I see and from footage he's not all that impressive. His entire gameplan revolves around throwing a jab, clinching, hit in the clinches then back peddling. I've seen the whole Gibbons - Dempsey fight it's avaliable on youtube as well as his performance against tunney and in niether fights did he strike me as a great technical boxer. Also if you see my original post i picked Dempsey to win by KO in the 5th, but I feel Norton gets way underrated and Dempsey way overrated here. (Tried to embed footage from Dempsey-Gibbons fight were the camera was much closer but I failed )
