Yes Baer could give him trouble. If Dempsey is as open as he was vs Fripo, then he could lose. I think a fully focused Dempsey, aka the Toledo version, would be able to avoid getting hit by the right hand, and stop Baer with his superior speed. Dempsey tko 6
Dempsey as Baer stated:That prime mauler who stopped Willard would get any of us(his divison in 30s) inside of two rounds! Baer is harder puncher and I kinda like him more but Dempsey is awesome and would stop him similar to Louis fight.
I might actually favor Baer over Marciano if he wasn't clowning around as usual (which he probably would be). I think all of the swarmers Dempsey, Marciano, Frazier, and (to a lesser extent) Tyson have a stylistic disadvantage against Baer. However I think all of them, with the possible exception of The Rock, had the proper tools to negate the stylistic advantage of Baer. A lot of people are saying this will be like Dempsey VS Firpo but I see it being much more competitive because of Baer's combo of power and durability. I think it goes more the way of Tyson-Ruddock where Tyson had a clear lead but was still catching serious leather and had his hands full. Dempsey wins by brutal KO in a viscous war after breaking Baer down.
There is some footage of them sparring and dempsey had no problems landing.....too bad baer had bad hands and hated boxing....as it was he became a champion
Dempsey by 5. Max might get some of those hard right hand shots in but Jack's are faster. Dempsey beats him down till max can't take no more.
Of course. I think he was better than Firpo, with a much better chin. If Dempsey started neglecting his defence he could easillt end up in serious trouble.
Baer was very good against pressure fighters and Dempsey's defense can bd loose at times. I'd give Jack edge, but I'm not sure if he'd stop him. Baer had iron chin and Dempsey wasn't similar to Louis. He wouldn't outland him from outside, he would try to wear him down.
