I’m not sure I ever thought much less typed that Dempsey was Tyson or even his equivalent? I think Tyson was better and greater. However I think Dempsey was great and Spinks was not designed to withstand his power or style. I don’t see this lasting more than 3 at any point.

While I favour Dempsey I think Spinks has the power to hurt him he hit harder then Carpentier who hurt Jack in his prime and more power then Tunney who dropped Dempsey.

Because the version of Spinks showing up you imagine to be an immobile 37 year old with only rudimentary boxing skills who had only gone 10 pedestrian rounds in the past 4 years?

Tommy Gibbons, not even the best lightheavy of his time and well into the back 9 of his career, went the distance with PRIME Dempsey but PRIME Spinks, who has power and awkwardness and movement and speed, gets plastered. Cool story.

Yeah....not saying that Dempsey couldn't pull out the win, but Spinks would make him work for it

I'm taking a bit of a leap of faith and going Dempsey.

I did. I pulled back the curtain. I'm a good boy now.

    1) Marciano
    2) Dempsey
3-100) the rest of those guys...

Dempsey would have to beware of the Spinks Jinx lest he find himself rising off the canvas

Maybe. I don't think Spinks hit overly hard at Heavyweight even tho he was immense at 175.

Even though Cooney wasn't the best opponent, he still was a big super heavyweight and even beefed up, Spinks was still 30 pounds lighter. So I don't doubt that Spinks could have decked anyone 200 pounds and less.

I'll take Holmes x2, Coke Cooney, Qawi and Muhammad to beat any of the opposition that Dempsey faced. Maybe not Fat Willie Meehan. I'm on the fence with that one.
