IMO, Dempsey was better than Firpo. And bigger, too and hit at least as hard. Dempsey had a similar style to Tyson, but was about 25-30 pounds smaller. How would a prime Dempsey be expected to do against a prime Bruno?

Dempsey by early round KO, it would look savage and primordial

I would like to think that Dempsey would win but know that he never faced anyone near the athletic prowess of Mr. Bruno and that, in fact, Bruno beat the more dangerous heavies in McCall and Ferguson.

Jack Dempsey is ranked #4 in my favorite heavyweights list. Frank Bruno would probably destroy him. Place Frank Bruno into the year of 1920. A 6'4" 245 lbs heavyweight with his skills and power would look like Superman.

Bruno's best weight was 225-230 and he was 6'3", similar proportions to Firpo, would be dwarfed by Carl Morris and Jess Willard. His skills aren't comparable to Gibbons, Sharkey or Tunney

Just because you're a big and good puncher doesn't make you immune to Dempsey. Just ask Fred Fulton

Dempsey would KO Bruno and while watching, Barbados Joe Walcott would exclaim "the bigger they are, the harder they fall!"

I don't rate Dempsey as high as others do H2H, but I think he has a chance here. Bruno had size and power but he could get caught. Bonecrusher Smith had Dempsey's power, but not his speed, and he KO'd Bruno. I think Dempsey would catch him late.

Let me tell you something that everybody in the UK knew at the time.

Bruno was just hype and sauce adverts.

He feasted on bums, lost whenever he stepped up, then went back to feasting on bums.

He became a bit of a national joke latterly!

The only reason that he is being built up into some sort of monster today, is because he conforms to some peoples ideas of what a heavyweight should look like!

How do you know this? Are you British and in Britain at the time?

Ferguson would have been detroyed by Dempsey at the stage Bruno met him, he was finished and he never punched with the power that Dempsey did.

I grew up in Britain and was a huge Bruno fan when I was a kid and he was the most beloved man in the country at one point, but when he kept failing to win the world title and coming back it got a bit old until he beat McCall but he ruined that by putting a limp display in v Tyson in their rematch, I remember the disappointment in the travelling fans faces as the sat dejected in the stadium after Tyson destroyed him in 3 rounds. Tim Witherspoon told Harry Carpenter once that he was shocked when he came to Britain to fight Bruno and as he walked through Brixton black kids would come up to him and tell him they wanted him to knock Bruno out, the thing was they made Bruno into too much of a family friendly black boxer at a time when there was a lot of tension between the white establishment and young blacks, Lewis called Bruno an uncle Tom because he knew how a lot of black brits saw Bruno as a sell out for being a Tory voter etc.

Dempsey had far more skills than Bruno like the Demsey roll, Tunney would never have been caught by a clumsy fighter like Bruno, different class.

Bruno had his hands full with Pierre Coetzer. Im thinking Dempsey has his guts for garters while slipping his jabs like Tyson did.
