At least he cleaned out something and didn't hide from the broom and the dustpan.

A guy who beat Bob Baker, Harold Johnson and Nino Valdes in the 18 months leading to the Marciano fight.

What did Willard, Dempsey's greatest pelt, do in the 18 months before Toledo?

I think I'm referring to his unbeaten record? Don't forget his manager was the matchmaker at MSG .Dempsey started out fighting in saloons and hobo camps for a few bucks, and sometimes just for grub.Had he been in Rocky's place his record might have been enhanced considerably.
Dempsey made a fortune doing one - reelers and appearances if Marciano could have been parlayed into cash on the hoof without fighting ,don't you think Al Weill would have done so with his cash cow?

Moore was competitive against Marciano , floored him in the second and buzzed him to the extent in which he admitted he blacked out for a second. Willard ever trouble Dempsey Mendoza, sorry I mean Seamus. :hey

That only supports the contention that 1955 Moore was a much more competitive fighter than 1919 Willard.

Resorting to namecalling only reveals that my line of argumentation has you on your heels.

Again, Dempsey was the Champion of the Event.

Marciano was Champion of the Heavyweights.

I'm just having a laugh, but on Dempsey you do resemble Mendoza on Johnson.

Dempsey was a great fighter, a natural-born, very gifted fighter. But his career was highly produced. Let's leave it at that.

Lifted this from an old post on this one:

Marciano is the eventual winner for me.

I don't see it going the distance either - he was only taken the distance once in his last 14 fights when he was fighting the cream of his career. And in truth he never failed to hurt anyone he hit - and a total of only 3 men avoided the canvas against him in his whole career!

Couple that with the fact that Marciano knocked out his 5 best opponents.

Funnily enough I see the opening round going in a similar vain to that of Walcott-Marciano I - I do see Marciano going down in the first and being left staggered and blinking at times but I also think Marciano had a funny and deceiving way of avoid getting really tagged big time - I challenge anyone to find any footage of a Marciano fight where anyone ever hit Marciano with any more than one really big punch at a time when on the offensive against him. even the supreme pound for pound artiste Sugar Ray Robinson insisted to critics, that Rocky, was the kind of guy “you really had to look for”. With his awkward style of leaning away as he was coming in he was always looking to make himself difficult to hit cleanly when coming in. Marciano was actually very measured and careful in taking the fight right to an opponent and particularly when faced with a troublesome foe he would often step back out and circle round to come at it from a different angle and always kept his hands tucked up close to his chin and never looked to give his opponents anything more than a side on target. Rocky occasionally floundered but would soon correct himself and go back to work. I think Dempsey might find it a little harder than most would imagine to get his ferocious blazing attacks going against The Rock.

there'd definately be a lot of tangling and wrestling and they may well smother each other a little - obviously there would be some vicious inside work but also Marciano could also take a step back size things up every now and again. Both men would relish the test of strength in the slugging stakes throughout but I'd favour Marciano upping his work as the fight went on and Dempsey's work rate dropping off - Firpo had Dempsey on the verge - even little Carp suprised him when he caught him flush and had him momentarily staggered, Jack Sharkey had his legs all over the place and Tunney dropped him to a knee so I just favour Rock to end it late - Dempsey would hang tough for a lot of the punishment though and as usual would probably be lethal every second he was in there

This is a pick-em fight imo.
I just pick Dempsey and I've stated my reasons.
How do you think Rocky would do against Tunney if he had been out of the ring for 3 years?

Yeah let's be honest - it would be a very close fight.
