A prime Jack Dempsey meets a prime Rocky Marciano in a 15 round championship bout at the height of their careers. Who wins and why.

Does a prime Dempsey ko marciano in round 1, or does a prime Marciano do the same to the manassa mauler in round 1. Or does Marciano wear down Dempsey over 14 rounds and beat down his arms and nail him in the 15th with a thunderous shot that sends him to the canvass like an anchor never to raise again. Or is Dempsey endurance to great and his toughness (this guy use to do bear knuckle boxing as teen for money in bars and was homeless) to much for Marciano to overcome.

Marciano biggest achievements include his perfect record and ability to knockout guys in late, early and middle round even when down significantly

Dempsey, well he just beats the **** out of people and is evasive, has fast hands, good movements, and made jess willard (a 6'6 1/2 guy who beat jack johnson in the 26th round) quit a fight because he beat him so bad and knocked out 6 of his teeth by round 3 or 4.

I'd call it a complete toss-up. I can see it going either way.

Or does the fact that Dempsey didn't fight colored fighters, make marciano better because he beat EVERYONE at his time, whereas Dempsey may have gotten away with fighting a more limited scope of competitors. Strangely I recall seeing dempsey spar with a black middle weight.

well, taking away those (possibly valid) criticisms of dempsey, this is a very interesting fight. both aggressive fighters, but one was a pather, the other a juggernaut. dempsey could definitely drop rocky if he lands right early, and how often did he let a fighter survive once he dropped them? other than tunny, it was hard to get away from that guy.

still, rocky's chin and toughness are beyond question and if he survives the early onslaught and recovers as he usually did, i see him wearing down dempsey, round after round. dempsey's power, imo, was in his speed and (as sharkey said) his aggressiveness. this will help him early but if it goes past 5, i see the rock grinding down dempsey in the corner while dempsey scores sharply on the inside.

tough fight, brutal fight but Rocky wins by TKO 14

No disrespect but it does seem like certain threads repeat themselves four or five times a year ...

pfff, what do you know....i've got a couple of new ones for you then:

    1)Hagler-Leonard: Who REALLY won

2)Jimmy Young vs. (insert vastly more proven heavyweight and wait for young fans to justify him dominating)

    3)Is Roberto Duran overrated??

Tough one to call. Both had trouble with boxers but enjoyed fighting toe to toe.

I think Marciano weathers an early storm to stop Dempsey later on.

I've dreamed of this fantasy fight for yrs........ My guess is, Rocco M. is better trained and tosses shorter, more precise shots.... Jack Dempsey threw wide shots that were often telegraphed.... I favor Rocco M. and his 1950s training methods over J.D. and his 1920s old school methods...... I'd pop a woody to see this in heaven.....

Tommy Gibbon's commented he could see Jack's punches coming.

Dempsey could definitely maul the guys he couldn't KO, though.

Anyways, I like Marciano just a litle.

It doesnt matter. When they go to the center of the ring for the referees instructions they wont be comparing resumes. They would be swapping punches.

marciano did throw some short shots? but really..you are going to say shorter then dempsey? people base the precipition of dempsey too much off of the last two minutes of round 1 with willard. if you look at other fights you see a man who could shop someone down with 6 inch punches
