Bottom line is none of the experts who saw them both fight chose Marciano to beat Dempsey. Dempsey was considered to far better hwt which he was.

You damn well know that the Dempsey who fought the prime
talented Jack Sharkey in 1927 was 32 years old and was out of the ring for THREE long years, and was a rusty slow version of
his prime years before...Why do you try to fool this forum by
leaving out this truth in your replies ?...Jack Sharkey was a terrific heavyweight at his best in 1927, and yes he was beating Dempsey in the early rounds, but Jack Dempsey bravely weathered the storm taking some hellacious shots but ripping his powerful body punches which slowly but surely took the steam out of Sharkey, leading to that left hook that kod Sharkey in the 7th round...Sharkey always insisted that Dempsey would have beaten Louis both at their primes...So S, I will take the opinions of thousands of the boxing fraternity who saw the prime Dempsey fight over your shallow regurgitating how bad a fighter
    Jack Dempsey was. Anytime, anyplace...:hi:

You can't think of a single reason, why we maybe should take this with a pinch of salt?

I would pick Marciano because I think he beat far better fighters than Dempsey ever did. I think Marciano was a little better in every area, including chin, defense, and conditioning. Punching power was nearly comparable. Dempsey was more explosive and a faster starter, but Marciano was more consistent and better able to break down good fighters. Of course it would be a hell of a fight and a bloodbath. But when push comes to shove and your hard earned cash is on the line, you know darn well you're going to put your money on Marciano.

Experts get it wrong all the time. Dempsey beat nobody good his entire career. Marciano may have the best HW and LHW of all time on his resume.

Marciano never beat a great heavyweight ,in fact he never beat a great fighter who was in his prime.

Rocky struggled with bottom feeders like Willis Applegate who had boxed twice in the previous two years.

This was a bruising, crowd-pleasing battle. Marciano won handily enough but failed to even knock down his opponent, who had fought only twice in the previous two years. Applegate's best round was the third, which the referee also took from Marciano because of a low punch. Red landed plenty of good punches, typically in the early parts of rounds, but Marciano almost always came back later to take the play away. Marciano's best round was the sixth. The attendance was 4167 and the gross gate

Do you think C*ckell goes 9 rounds with Dempsey?

Marciano said he was badly hurt by Moore. The ability of Wray is irrelevant, the fact that Dempsey had the capability to break the giants jaw in two places with a single punch is not.
Did Marciano ever inflict the punishment on a fighter that Dempsey did to the giant Willard?

Light heavy Lowry whom another light heavy,Mathews kod in5 rds , twice went the distance with Marciano.

    How about At Henri?

Henri frequently outfought Marciano with left hooks in the first three rounds, and landed four nifty uppercuts at close range in round three. Marciano hurt him with a two-handed attack in the fourth round and Art did not land much after that, although defending himself cleverly. The fight became one-sided and uninteresting. Marciano dropped Henri for two nine-counts in the ninth and the referee stopped it. Marciano was slow, sluggish, and cumbersome, and made one of his poorest showings. Attendance was 4386 and the gross gate was $8285.

Marciano ground down his best opponents all of whom were past prime.

The fight would be a bloodbath. Let's face it, it would probably come down to who was better on the day.

I personally like Marciano for two reasons: (1) he had a fantastic chin and an iron will, and always found a way to pull himself through adversity for the win and (2) Dempsey liked to brawl, playing into Rocky's strengths, and diminishing his own technical abilities which were better than those of Marciano.

That said, if anybody could starch Rocky for the count, it would be Dempsey.

Dempsey most likely drops him and hurts him early but Marciano survives the onslaught, Rocky takes him apart and knocks him out before the 10th, Dempsey would never be the same again...

The consensus on the comparison threads is that Dempsey had:
    Faster hands.
    Faster feet.
    Comparable power.
    Comparable chin.
    Better defence.
    Better skin resistance to cuts.

    Surpise ,surprise:

I'm picking Dempsey by mid rounds tko!!:bbb:bbb:bbb

Marciano could be a little...strange...sometimes. He could look quite devastating sometimes yet someone like the harmless Ted Lowry comfortably went the distance with him twice.
Some have even suggested the first fight in particular was Lowry's.
It's a peculiar inconsistency in Marciano that I can't quite figure out.
He seemed to be a more consistent performer once he became champion, but prior to that he seemed to have a couple of wobbly evenings.

Conditioning I would agree with , no one was in better shape than Marciano, and no one needed it more .
    My£$£$ goes on Dempsey
    Reasons are:
    Faster puncher
    Faster foot work
    Better resistance to cuts
    Better defence ,imo
Marciano was a grinder. Dempsey usually got you out of their quickly if you made the mistake of trading with him.
    Happy Birthday Adam.:good

Marciano was simply the better boxer who made less mistakes that would punish and bully Dempsey. Marciano was just a level or so above Dempsey.
