Mr Bill, You nor anyone now living, has seen Dempsey in his prime ,Willard on film, real time speed, not hand cranked cameras, slowing down the action. Also pre Willard, when he flattened 25 fighters in the first round, including Fred Fulton, Carl Morris, giants,in less then a minute. He at his absolute peak then, was described, by ringside writers,as a fast coil spring unwinding.I have old articles in old Ring Mags,of the 1920,s describing young Dempsey...Were Hype Igoe, Tad Dorgan,Damon Runyon, etc, missing something that todays revisionists, 90 years later know?. I think not...Dempsey in close was able to knockout ,Firpo in the second round,in close with a left right so powerful and quick.you can hardly see the punches, but see the 220 lb.Firpo, on his back ,like hit by a bullet...Please as I posted before,a small clip segment, that astounds me.It shows Dempsey and Firpo ,chest to chest, then Dempsey with his free left hand, and NO punching space shooting10 or so powerful and fast left hooks, and uppercuts to Firpo,s chin, it still leaves me in awe. Joe Frazier , also had a great left hook, but he needed more punching room....Dempsey pre 3 year layoff, along with my other favorite Heavyweight, the great Joe Louis,at his Max Baer peak, were the two greatest heavies, that ever lived, in their respective primes,of that I am convinced......Both hit withthe speed of lightheavies, and the strength, of todays slower dreadnoughts.....

    Burton,

I hear all that stuff....... BUT! I hope to Christ you are NOT gonna tell me that Demps. could've and would've beaten Ali to a pulp in a time machine.... If you try to spoon feed me that nonsense, I swear I'll vomit....

BTW Jess Willard took that hellish beating after only 2 fights earlier beating the hell out of a prime Jack Johnson.

Yeah.... But FOUR ****ing years had gone by.................. Willard was a lean 230 for Johnson in '15, and a slobbish 245 for Dempsey in 1919..... Big difference........ Cheerio......

F.Y.I... In 1915, Johnson was age 37 and regarded as woefully out of shape in Cuba....... WTF have you been smoking??
