Is it not a given that these types of threads will repeatedly pop up again and again? Nobody wants to bump 8 year old threads to discuss a topic. The format isn't very good. I take solace in the fact that every thread will have its own unique arguments, even if the same matchup was discussed last autumn.
You are of course correct and believe it or not i agree with your post in its entirety. From here on in i will refrain from jumping on threads that have been covered......it's a new me! As for the question.... I see Liston breaking Dempsey down over 8-10.
I see this as the Dempsey movement vs the Liston jab. If Dempsey avoids the jab and can consistently get in and then avoid the left hook power as well, the hand speed and 2 handed power of Dempsey KO Liston 10. A lot of if's here and I see one helluva of an action fight. I like JD
Dempsey by KO in 2. And, I believe Jack to be one of only six in history to defeat Sonny. But Prime Mauler was the greatest peak fighting heavyweight in history.
Same here , I can see Jack moving in fast , getting In to Liston and scoring hard . Not the easiest of guys to do it against but Jack s got speed on his side. Demps stops him suddenly in the late rounds.
Jack had a great chin, but I don' see him beating a prime Liston, i believe he'd do better than Cleveland williams though, imagine the intensity in that room when those two killers square off.
It'd certainly be a fight for the ages, no matter who comes out standing. Liston would be a very, very difficult test for Dempsey, having to get past those telephone pole jabs, and I think I'd give him the nod, but I also wouldn't entirely write off the Manassas Mauler.
Marty Marshall, Eddie Machen and Clay/Ali all had seen the movement key to beat Liston. And Dempsey had power himself. But if you stand and trade with Liston...you get bounced off the canvas (Patterson & Zora Folley).
Dempsey had the same level of power as Liston more or less. Dempsey's opposition was a little bit better and pretty much the same size on average. Liston's chin was probably better. I'd choose Dempsey over Liston by knockout but Liston has a very good chance of leaving Dempsey draped over the ropes.
