I think Dempsey breaks his ribs and finishes him early.

    Definitely no Dempsey / Willard.

Fury is much more mobile and a much better boxer.

On the other hand he doesn't have a particularly powerful punch and a suspect chin.

Frankly it might go to a decision, maybe. Fury would be using his outrageous reach to try keep Dempsey out, who of course would be using his speed and fire power to get inside. I think I favour Dempsey, simply because Fury looked vulnerable when Wlad started unloading on him in the 12th. Dempsey, while not having the size of Wlad, is more explosive and will be eager to get into the trenches with Fury. This could even be a classic match, because it won't be easy to close Fury down. It might come down to the wire in the final rounds.

When it comes to levels, I think Dempsey is a borderline top ten heavy (and has an argument with Langford as being possibly the greatest cruiser of all time). Fury is not in that class (I'd have no problem with anyone rating him in the top 100, but maybe not quite top 50 off of one win). But he is bloody massive tho. And is a much better boxer than Willard. To be fair, it's just guesswork, isn't it? But Dempsey early is my best guess.

A prime Dempsey by KO Jack had a more relentless style & left hook than Cunningham & Jack had real Killer instints

Fury is too much of an enigma for me to judge.
I followed his whole career. I thought he was rubbish. I saw him improve quite a lot but I still didn't expect him to win like he did against Klitschko.
Klitschko was old so that confuses the issue too, but Fury completely flummoxed him and marked him up without doing much.
It suggests the man had serious skills.
And now, we might never know.

So true. We could have a pretty good heavyweight devision since 2016 with 4-6 more teriffic fights. This is gone now and Fury might never come back in shape.

Dempsey like he was back then would NOT compete with heavys today. When will this Dempsey/Marciano brian virus stop. Put them in with Kovalevs and Wards for fair weighted fights!

First off it depends on the rules, neutral corner or not, as lot of damage to Willard was courtesy of Dempsey pouncing on him immediately after Willards gloves left the canvas at knockdowns.

I have great respect for Dempseys place in ATG list, but i feel it is not forgone conclusion that he beats Fury, Fury had a fine boxing skill set, he is a massive old unit in weight, reach and height. Dempsey beat Willard when Jess was 37, Fury would be just past his mid 20s.

I will stick my neck out and say Fury beats Dempsey, despite the Wlad fight being a bore fest, Furys game plan totally befuddled and negated Wlad and his strengths, something no one had done for many a year.

Dempsey had a very fine set of boxing tools, but at end of day they did not vary, he had one way of fighting and successful it was, but i feel with Furys boxing brain and ability to get a game plan going he would negate much of Dempseys armoury aided by his physical size.

Once again we will never truly know.

If Fury comes in at his very best ..then it's competitive. Jack s going to struggle I believe against a modern giant. I'm a Dempsey fan ,he should win but it won't be easy.

    Both are hard to judge.

Dempsey can look like one of the best ever, but not nearly as good in other fights, and there are questions as to how good his opposition was. Fury at his best is an awkward puzzle no one figured out at all, but there's quite a few with a better chance of solving it than the opposition he faced (old Wlad, Hammer and Chisora). Dempesy is way way higher P4P, but size difference is also enormous.

    Not one I'd bet on.

Fury has the better top victory of the two. He has proven the ability to rise higher.

I think fury destroys him. No man that small can beat fury. Fury’s a master at fighting from range, has fast hands, and throws punches from all angles

37 year old Willard and Fulton don’t even come close to comparing to the skills of a Tyson fury
