In today's era I would bet the house in Klitschko, but if this fight takes place in Dempsey's time it could be a completely different ballgame.
I agree. Many great fighters have had problems with lesser fighters only to end things late. Marciano is a good example. I'm glad it went down like that, since it's pretty much the only proof that Dempsey could carry his power late.
I think that Dempsey might have been better suited in many ways to the present era than his own. The 12 round limit is made for Dempseys style and I dont think Mills Lane would have let the Willard fight go into the second round.
More room for the plaster of paris Only joking! Actually you raised a good point ,Dempsey is known for his explosive starts ,and its assumed he gradually winds down ,the second Brennan fight gives the lie to this.
Actually, you may have a point there Janitor. :good We have to remember though that a modern ref most likely won't let the fighters work inside much. He'd break them up pretty quickly and to me that suits Wlad, as Dempsey would have to work his way inside again...
Well he smashed up his sparring partners just as badly with 16 oz sparring gloves as he did his actual oponents with 5oz gloves. I think that his fists would have done horible damage with any gloves.
On a related note, one year ago there was the Klitschko-Brewster rematch at july 7th, which was exactly the date that i went to Czech on holiday with a few friends. I expected to miss the fight, but to our surprise the relatively primitive house had satellite tv. So, we watched the small background introductory story before it, the national hymns.. ring introductions... fight finally starts, but little than 20 seconds later the girl that drove all the way starts nagging about the noise (she wanted to sleep), and since we were gonna spend the next two weeks with her, decided to turn it off and find out about the local bars. The sting to it is that right at the beginning of the first round, Wlad tripped or something, i don't remember exactly, but it looked clumsy and asif he was already having another panick attack . That was the last i saw of it and that image was in my head for the next two weeks until i finally downloaded the fight when i got home. The suspense...... ahh, i love boxing.:bbb
Klitschko seems to have trouble with pressure fighters who can punch. they dont get better in that regard than dempsey. this kind of style seems to make klitschko suffer panic attacks.
dempsey wouldnt kill himas easy as he would valuev but his relentless bobbing, weaving, slipping, crushing body attacks and his smashing head shots would drop a bloody klit by round 6 at latest
