Jerry Quarry was no laughing matter........ J.Q. was too tuff for his own good, but, he had wet tissue for skin........ But yeah, in a time machine, Jerry Quarry of '69 would give 1920 Jack Demps fits........... I'm not saying Quarry would win, but he'd be there to go at it hard........ Wlad Klit is in a different ballpark than Quarry ever was....... I see the recent Wlad Klit who's come-back strong with Manny Steward as head coach beating the **** outta Jack Demps in a time slot / zone....... WORD! MR.BILL
I partially agree. Wladimir is robotic and one-paced, BUT he does know how to control opponents and keep them on the end of his reach. He's a very basic boxer, but he boxes brilliantly with his basics. True, I dont think he can take punishment like those other guys did back in the day. And, yes, in a real fight with someone his own size he might well get flattened. Dempsey of course would kill him, with speed.
Tunney had a great jab but he couldn't slip it because he wasn't in his prime. I think Dempsey will be too fast for Wlad to land anything, and Wlad will take a huge left hook.
bringing on sanders fight is stupid. wlad was not in his prime then it's like saying dempsey would eat wlad's jab all night long because of tunney fight,or wlad would ktfo him in 1,beacuse flynn did that wlad in mid rounds or dempsey in 3..i can't decide
I am an on again/off again Dempsey fanatic but sometimes I think he gets the most run out of the fewest meaningful victories and does not get enough marks against him for putting the title in mothballs for years and avoiding some of the better fighters around. In short, I think the myth outshines the substance. Wlad KO5 Dempsey.
" Look, we all know about Dempsey v.s. Fulton/Morris/Willard but more than likely none were as talented as Wlad. Dempsey has a shot at an early KO but if it is not done fast I do not see him lasting very long ..." Sounds like you like Wlad here. Guess the old man can't make up his mind. You think Dempsey would be too small against a man like Wlad. It doesn't apply though, doesn't even get mentioned.
Wlad Klit has a top-5 ATG heavyweights jab... It's a weapon...... Wlad's hook and cross are devastating upon landing / hitting the mark..... Odd as it may seem, Wlad Klit has regained the flow and momentum here in scant yrs (2007-2010) as he had back in 2001 & 2002..... W.K. is at the top of his game while pushing age 34..... And, at the rate he is going, none of these barely 200 pounders who are / were a stretched 6' tall from way back when are gonna be able to handle the size, strength, power and skills that W.K. now consistantly executes in the ring these nights..... As for dude's like "Demps & Marciano" slipping W.K.'s jab and getting inside to breakdown Klit's body, well, that is utter fantasy right there... Both Demps and Marciano would eat serious leather trying to employ a game plan like that.... And I cannot picture either small fry (Demps & Marciano) being able to remain verticle for any great length of time once a bad-ass mother of a duck like W.K. starts landing punches upside these dude's heads...... You know, people can either scoff or point to W.K.'s last fight with Edward Chambers all they want to, but while I know Chambers' offense sucks ass and lacks power, Chambers is still one of the more gifted defensive wizards since the powder-puff puncher Jimmy Young boxed in his prime from the 1970s...... Point being, neither Demps or Marciano were all that adept at slipping punches...... I'm sorry. W.K. KO's Jack Demps somewhere between rds 10 thru 15 in a time zone / frame...... WORD! MR.BILL
I hold both Dempsey and Marciano in higher esteem than Wlad... by quite a ways. However, what you write is the truth.
I suppose I can accept and deal with that.....:deal I know "Demps and Marciano" are gonna get the higher props overall in 2010, cuz that's the normal and respectful thing to do with two long gone and dead ex-champs........ :think BUT! In a time machine, I don't see Demps of 1920 or Marciano of 1952 beating W.K. of 2007 to the present day......... :-( MR.BILL:hat
Jack Dempsey will never amount to anything to today's revisionists...They say all the large men that Dempsey anihilated in his prime such as Pelkey, Morris, Fulton etc, were stumblebums...What do these Dempsey detractors know of these guys ?. Zilch ! I am not saying that these guys along with bill Brennan, Firpo were great fighters, but the way little ole Dempsey flattened them was awesome, and it says here that were the Dempsey of Toledo to have met Klitschko,Wladimir would be a kayo victim also...Dempsey's weight was very deceptive.Though weighing 188-195 his weight was in his upper torso, and he was very strong and AGILE. I believe he would circle around Klitschko as much as needed until he would find an opening and explode his great left hook on the inside and take Wladimir out early...He punched twice as fast as Wladimir and as usual the case "speed kills ".Dempsey along with Joe Louis loved fighting the big men as their records prove....And because of Dempsey and Louis' blend of hand speed and power, I believe they were the two best heavyweights of all time.....
Burt, I do agree he had the skills. I just wish we had a better actual body of work of Jack in his prime to go by ..
