I Think there was good big fighters in the 40's and I think Vlad is a very talented fighter who has learned control and excellent defense and power in both hands and one of the best jabs I have ever seen and I match that with Holmes and Ali. He has learned to pace himself and not unload until the opponent is ripe and they usually submit or go down after a neat and thorough thrashing. Vlad has Olympic Gold pedigree and a long amateur career that ended with a gold. He made some mistakes but at this point I would have to call him the best big man, behind Lewis but we don't know how he will finish, he may pass Lewis depending on what he does in the next 3 years. Primo, Buddy Baer, Willard, were all good big men but I think Vlad has more of the complete package As far as beating Dempsey, well he has an excellent chance but Dempsey would put the pressure on Vlad and could change the tide of the fight with one punch but the Vlad of late has handled some experienced professionals and has not taken any risk and won handily...Austin, Peter,Brewster,Brock,Thompson,Ibragimov,Chagaev,Chambers I do think Dempsey had more explosive power than these fellows and that is why he would be more dangerous but Vlad is far more skilled in every area and has far greater power than Willard. Vlad takes lead but is always in danger
I like Dempsey in this one. I see Wlad trying to stay away and using his superior size, long jab and heavy right hands to keep Jack at bay, but I see Dempsey getting home with his heavy hands sooner or later and once he does he hurts Wlad and then finishes him. Dempsey KO5..
Dempsey in 2 I can imagine Wlad trying to move away, but falling over like a tree as Dempsey throws his body into him
They don't know, because their motto is "the latest is the greatest"... Klitschko, to me is robotic, never alters his pace, and could never take the punishment of a Carnera, Abe Simon or Buddy Baer, who I think would have flattened Wladimir.IMO...Remember the old adage, " the bigger they are, the harder they fall ",so with Wladimir...
Re-read what I said. I said he didn't have the power of Wladimir. I never said he didn't have any power. Willard was also coming off a 4 year layoff when he fought Dempsey.
Had Willard from 1915 face Dempsey in 1919, I belive it would have been other type of fight, and not the one that did happen in 1919. People always bring this up, but do forget, that Willard was not in the shape he was vs Johnson, the long lay off, and 37 years old. I not sure how Wlad would do, but I think he do better than Willard, unless Dempsey catchs him like Sanders did, and thats possible.
So do I Bman! His speed, power, aggresiveness, and use of angles will difficult for Wlad. Might send Wlad into panic mode.
A bold statement, considering Baer and Simon both look pretty damn unimpressive on film. Carnera looks better and knows the basics like Valuev, but has the wrong kind of athletics for boxing and i think he'd end up the same way McCline did.. who could also look pretty good at times.
Not too bold a statement...Buddy Baer was overshadoiwed by his older brother, but Buddy Baer kod 51 fighters in 60 bouts...The man was 6.6",could hit..Of course the 2 films you see of him was not too impressive Who looks too impressive against the great prime Joe Louis ?Buddy Baer would sail into Klitschko, outpunch and outgut the robotic Wladimir,I believe...And if the massive and dead game Primo Carnera could pick an opponent to beat it would be the stationary Klitschko...Primo just as big and stronger would outwork Klitschko,in my opinion...During Ali's time Klitschko would be in the second tier of contenders...Take away his height and jab,he would be catnip to the smaller more mobile great heavyweights of yesterday, it is my contention.....
You cannot train a chin whatsoever - that is complete horsesh1t next you'll be saying you can train heart - the intangibles are the lifeblood of this sport and that is one intangible which you've either got or you ain't - and VLad ain't got it period. :good
Dempsey gets more credit for stopping, and I mean throwing every punch he has and standing over his fallen opponent and throwing more, for stopping a 38 year old opponent (when 38 was the equivalent of 58 now) who hadn't fought a lick in a few years and was an untrained shootfighter at best... he gets more credit for that one fight than a Joe Louis or Larry Holmes get for a dozen fights. Yet all extant footage shows him to be entirely beatable by people who are not middleweights, lightheavies, untrained South American hype-jobs or guys with terminal diseases. Wlad KO5
