I agree, It would be great to have a guy like that today I reckon Jack Dempsey could beat anyone in the history of boxing and in todays era it would be easy for him he would batter everyone and probably beat every fighter today by a BRUTAL AND VISUOUS KO. Also I cant think of any other fighter in the history of boxing that would be a more exiting fighter to go and watch imagine going to a Jack Dempsey fight you'd probably be thinking anything could happen with all the 1st round KO's he won by.
I was referring to the current crop, not his era. How do you think a 180lbs Jack would do today with these bigger pillows?
I don't give much hope to a guy, who went life and death with Brennan and Firpo, and lost to twice to Tunney, of chopping down every contender today.
You're both right, really. I mean, everybody's so bad that if anybody struggles with any of them they could probably get beaten by any of them, even if you wouldn't necessarily say that they would.
Again, with a slight alteration, where is the quick, wide swinging 180 pound powerpuncher who is ruling the division? Everyone points to this mythical "Toledo Dempsey" whose only challenge was to drop a fat, old, inactive dirigible from sky. Mission accomplished, I guess. But really worth all the ballyhoo? Willard was nothing more than a latecomer brute to start with. The fact that he was 37 and had fought ten rounds in 4 years, and mistakenly thought he had a powderpuff on his hands doesn't help the case of this being some great accomplishment.... at least as not as great as it is painted to be. And those drawing comparisons to Waldo, apparently think that precise punching and immaculate footwork are middling affairs for Fancy Dans and not the real stuff of scrappin'. So, begin your assertions that Mike Tyson was really 180 pounds of fighter and 32 pounds of excess, steroid induced surfeit...
The guy who was the #1 heavyweight before the curent incumbant, went on to fight at light heavyweight at the age of 37. There lies your answer!
My point is that there are still lhws penetrating the heavyweight division, and there are still smws penetrating the heavyweight division. The only, repeat only thing that has changed, is that a lhw can bulk up to 210lbs if they choose to do so.
