1. Meehan. 2. Meehan. 3. Meehan. 4. Meehan. 5. (Sigh!) Meehan! You have to give it to Jack! Despite Meehan being a Persistent, Porky, Pudgy, Putrid Poison, Jack kept climbing back into the ring with that Fat, Floppy, Freaky, Furry ****er! Jack was the man!!! I don't think Meehan washed much either.
1)Jess Willard - July 4, 1919 2)Fred Fulton - July 27, 1918 3)Bill Brennan I - February 25, 1918 4)Battling Levinski - November 6, 1918 5)Gunboat Smith II - December 30, 1918
Can't rank anything for certain without having seen them; but if we're only speculating here, I'd guess that Willard, Fulton, Miske II, Brennan II, and Levinsky would likely comprise a top 5.

Of the ones on film I'd say Jess Willard, Bill Brennan 2 and Georges Carpentier. But the Luis Firpo and Tom Gibbons fights, even though he had probably slipped considerably by then, show strengths and qualities that probably dont show up on film so well elsewhere. The Gibbons fight shows remarkable stamina, as he keeps moving fast on his feet, up on his toes, for entire 15 rounds. Obviously the Firpo fight shows how dangerous he was when hurt. Unfilmed : Fred Fulton Bill Brennan 1 By all accounts these were great performances against genuine leading contenders.
Surprised no one has mentioned Carl Morris.. Wasn't he considered as one of the best conetenders around, and Dempsey nailed him one round?
