I would guess they would have got on well early in Tysons career when he seemed to have his head screwed on, but that Dempsey would have become increasingly critical of Tyson as his public and private behaviour spiraled out of control.

Dempesy would have had no time for Tyson, at all.

He was born in 1895, thus being the 19th century.

That's not in the slightest what I am suggesting, not even funny. There is a vast difference between commonly accepted epiphets and lynching.

But you take the writings of the educated class from Dempsey's time and they would be considered "racist" today. Faulkner would not be printed today, some of Hemingway's early stuff, the same. We have some of the greatest genocides in modern history occurring over the past 30 years, and people want to preach how enlightened we are because we've cleaned up our words.

Didnt Dempsey die in 1983 and Louis in 1981, then they would never have seen Tyson who turned pro in 85. Would loved to have seen their views on him.

I suspect Dempsey would have said that tyson should try to shorten up his punches (I know dempsey looks wild in the willard fight, but otherwise he was tight). And he would have suggested mike work on his in fighting.

Also his views on Holmes. Dempsey retained his mind to the end, and also reasonable health with the aid of a pacemaker. (In fact, he joked about breaking out of the hospital where his pacemaker was implanted, and taking the nurses with him.) Jack lived long enough to see Holmes-Cooney and Holmes-Cobb, so he had the opportunity to evaluate all heavyweight champions from Corbett to Holmes at his peak. (When the 88 year old Dempsey died, he was the second longest lived of all former champions, after Johnny Wilson, the first to live past 90.)
