Not compared to anyone in particular, just compared to the notable heavyweights of that era.

He was far more skilled than Shavers, Foreman, Frazier. Not in any way comparable.

If you take dempsey s punching ability /power to how it was in the twenty s and equate it to how he'd be in this era then very high. Hard , fast, crisp and accurate, he's banging out a lot of heavy s. On a par with Foreman, slightly higher than frazier and higher than Ali, lyle etc. He would have been involved in some high profile fight s no doubt s.

He would be the most dangerous finisher of that era, if not the hardest puncher overall.

Some of these threads about Dempsey's punching ability seem a bit silly.

He was as good at the specific things that he was good at, as any heavyweight in history as ever been, and most of that was down to his nuanced punching technique.
