Those guys haven't shown the type of power that Dempsey had.

Firpo was 6'3-6'4 going off of pictures and he weighed into the 220s regularly. With the type of training that they have today there is no doubt that he would be in the high 230s. He had the frame to be a superheavyweight.

"Super heavyweight" just means big and slow and unable to fight the championship distance.

So if Kovalev went up to heavy and knocked out David Price would that convince you?

But you do get guys that size who can carry their power up to heavyweight once in a blue moon.

No, but if he knocked out Wladamir Klitschko, I would have to take notice!

Cool story. How many of his 69 opponents suffered broken shoulders?

It's a shame that the race of sub-190lb men who punch harder than giants has apparently gone extinct.

How well does Kovalev's power stack up at middleweight?

Somewhere below Golovkin according to most people who have sparred with them both!

I suspect that Dempsey was a 190lb Golovkin in power terms.

    Hey Kevin (Aka stupid):

Sharkey was trying to emphasize how hard Dempsey hit. Via Sharkeys comments Dempsey hit harder than Joe Louis and the power of his punches were terrific. Another quote regarding Dempsey from Sharkey who by the way was a leading contender for a decade as well as hwt champion:

"I never thought anyone could hit that hard".

David Price has a glass chin to begin with. If he knocked out a guy like Luis Ortiz or someone who can take a punch then sure but he has never done that and will never do that so it is irrelevent. Kovalev doesn't look as explosive as Dempsey even against 175 lbrs.

Oh my bad lol. Yes, Willard did kill a guy with an uppercut. He could punch thats for sure. He had a pretty respectable ko ratio and should be noted for such.

It's a shame the modern heavyweights power is more science fiction than truth.
