Jack Dillon [the giant killer] vs. Sam Langford, who reportedly wasn't eager to meet Dillon, in primes....who wins?.

The smart money would have to be on Langford, but honestly both these guys were wrecking machines.

"Langford" plus "prime" in the same sentence, you better have a man weighting more than 175 in the other corner or he's going to lose. I just don't pick a man of similar size to beat him, that's all.

Jack Dillon publicaly admited to avoiding Jeff Clark, who Sam Langford had split a series with, for whatever that is worth.

First I ever heard of Langford not being eager, or not wanting to face Dillon. Any source you can provide for that? Dillon is a guy I've enjoyed learning a bit more about of late.

Is there any film of Diillon? Why did he not get a chance to fight Johnson or Dempsey?

What chance do you give Young Peter Jackson, Jeff Clarke or LarryTemple?

Langford didnt really seem to weigh in at 175 in his prime. Going by boxrec, he jumped the weight and seemed to go straight to heavyweight. If this is a weight unlimited fight though, your statement is certainly a lot more relevant though.

CMoyle, I read many years ago in a Ring Mag,stating that Langford, and Dillon never met, because Langford was not anxious fo the match...I never heard any other source, but I personally believe Langford feared no man alive....But what a war that would have been....Two bulls in a China Shop...Two "giant killers"...

Up until 1912, Dillon was fighting below 157lbs ,indeed he fought for a version of the middleweight title.

Yes, but Johnson gave title shots to Ketchel and O'Brein, who were close to that weight. What about 1913, 01 1914?

And why was Dillion not offered a shot to meet Dempsey?

Dillon was long shot when Dempsey came along.

    No.Ketchel scaled 1701/4 lbs for Johnson .
    OBrien 162 1/2lbs.
Dillon was weighing under 157lbs at the time.Fighting middle weight contests.
Dillon did not meet Dempsey because after the beginning of 1917, Dillon started to lose allmost as often as he won ,his best days were behind him.Whereas Dempsey was still drawing fights with Meehan and Norton in1917.
Chronologically their careers only briefly overlapped ,one's star was setting ,the others was rising.

In 1912 Johnson fought Flynn, who scaled 193lbs.
1913 Jim Johnson, who was over 190lbs.
    1914 Moran, who scaled 203lbs.

From my understanding Dempsey style was mean to closelt resemble Dillon's.
