This is just from boxrec to start off, I intend for this to be fleshed out with news reports. I've tried to include notable wins, and losses of the various black heavyweights, if there's any I overlooked, or are missing from boxrec, please tell me and I will update them. Any reports of these fights would appreciated, I intend to add what I can.

I have excluded wins over what I consider more minor opponents. I have also excluded short no decision bouts, apart ones between Johnson and other important heavyweights. I am only going up to Johnson winning the title from Tommy Burns

I was interested to see this after McVea's thread, it's mostly just for my own purposes, though I'd like to get news reports for as many as possible eventually.

Nothing on George Godfrey? Fought Jake Kilrain to a draw in their first fight, fought Choynski when he was 40+ years old too. Though Boxrec has alot of info missing on him

It was mostly just for Jack Johnson's time. Godfrey, Peter Jackson etc. were too early, and didn't really come into this as much.

I've looked for stuff on some of the early black champions a few times, never found much.

Godfrey had a few past prime bouts during the time period you were examining, so i just thought it might be relevant.

Godfrey has some pretty crazy stories. Apparently he was once going to fight Sullivan, despite Sullivan's color bar, but the police broke it up due to the illegality of prizefighting at the time

Fitzsimmons was 43 when J Johnson knocked him out.

Was that THE James Jeffries in 1896?

Yes Johnson gets no real credit for koing the shell of Fitz, as he said himself he was well past it.

Brilliant research! Thanks! George Sullivan is credited on McVey's record but if the other opponents are genuine this gives him a further 7 wins!
