What's the point of a pardon for a man who's been dead for decades

Symbolism! The fact that Johnson still has living family members means that the pardon is important to some people, even if only one person lives on.

Exactly, the same thing as naming a street after a dead mofo. It is a symbolic gesture, not a meaningful act to the people, the nation nor the society that established itself as one in opposition to a man (Jack) whom the police wouldn't even allow his azz kicking of the champ to be filmed to its entirety. Followed by beatings of the people just for him winning, where is their symbolism? People died because Jack won .

I'm not here to argue you, I respect that it (symbolizes) something for you & his family. I am a boxing fan like you.
But I think Jack would want the president to intervene on our sport's thug promoters, thug sanctioning bodies creating made up rankings, druggie PED cheats..not using the HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE WORLD..to pardon a dude who is pushin' daisies.

IMO most who are overjoyed are Johnson's descendants. May they be happy and joyous . Because tomorrow boxing will still be in the same predicament. Again, just my take.

Pardons are usually saved for end of a President’s term and involve political donors…Regardless of this being long overdue, it was right.

The disheartening part for me is that being straight forward and recognizing the principles of matters, is now so misunderstood and foreign to so many…

This. A boxer at the Mayweather gym even asked that question. Johnson has been dead for over 70 years. This was entirely useless, since I'd rather a living person get a pardon.

It means a lot because it rights a wrong. Jack Johnson was with a white woman who chose to be with him. He did nothing wrong. It is amazing, though, that Obama didn't do this. What the heck?

Exactly. If he wasnt pardoned while he was alive then it's a meaningless symbol. A posthumous pardon literally means nothing to the affected party.
