Jack Johnson v Jersey Joe 15rds ?

This one would be a techinical masterpiece. I'm undecided who would win.

 

While both fighters have a impressive degree of power in their hands, I think both mens defence would keep them concious. It would be a somewhat slow fight, full of fients, and cute moves, It would be a great fight, but i think Jersey Joe was just a bit better, and would pull out the W.

 

Both men preferred to have the other coming forward, although there's rare footage of JJW doing well on the front foot with Ten Hoff, and Jack was extremely effective carrying the attack to Willard in the early going. I think this one would come down to generalship though, and who could get the other coming forward. Based on Havana, that may well be Johnson who takes the initiative, to his detriment. My initial gut reaction is to favor Jack, but my mind is performing checks and balances on my intuition.

The key could well be the classic championship distance. Lil' Artha' could over pace himself here, but he was so good over the first 15 in Havana that I'm not comfortable asserting this. He did force a halt over Burns in 14, stopped Jeff in 15, and trashed Langford over that distance.

I need to consider this one more carefully, and probably review substantial footage of both.

 

Jersey Joe came from the school of hard knocks and while I do consider Johnson an advanced boxer for his time I don't think he had the rough and tumble ring savvy or the one punch pinpoint power of Walcott. JJW had a good pair of legs and excellent power in both hands. Johnson would make it ugly at times but I think Walcott in his prime years from Louis to Marciano 1 would have the accuracy and power that would allow him to take a UD over 15 in a comfortable win with Johnson hitting the deck or RSC in the latter 3rd....Walcott wins
